No pictures from yesterday, but today we cruised around three La Sal mountains coming out through sand flats.
There's evidence of the flooding everywhere, but it was still driveable in the Silverado. You can see quite a few areas where they've repaired the roads already.
After we got back from the morning run in the Silverado we decided to take the S10 out to check out how bad Kane Creek was. Turns out it wasn't much worse than normal and we ran the whole thing. Pictures in a few.
Cruised out from Blanding, through the Manti- La Sal mountains, North of Blanding and West of Monticello. Deer count of 15, Turkey count estimate 20 ish. Highest elevation was Abajo at the towers, 11350 ft. Reminded me a bit of the passes around Ouray area.
The very last picture was a fluke. I pulled in to an empty area, or so I thought, only to find a guy parked with 20 or so turkeys milling about. I didn't want to get to close as to spook them, we were both just amazed.
The LaSals were our favorite place to go cruise the trails when we lived in Moab. Get up out of the heat and away from most of the tourists. We could take the side by side from our house out by Ken's Lake straight up to any of it.
After we got back from that run, Chris and I headed out to fins to test my steering. It all seems to be fine after a spirited run through the upper part of Fins.
White Rim proved to be worth the price of admission. Incredibly scenic and very remote.
We had stopped by the visitor center to secure our permits and secure a campsite. What we got was at the Murphy Hogback site a. This is probably an hour past what is considered the mid point of the trail at white crack. What this means is a long trail day.
Starting out at the Schaffer switchbacks we descend onto the White Rim trail.
I’d share more pics right now but my phone is not letting me to upload right now.
