I am doing the numbers to get a working pinion depth and the numbers on the end of the old and new pinion are nebulous.

OLD pinion is on the right and I am guessing the number is +2.45 (Is that correct?)
NEW pinion is on the left and I am pretty sure the number is 0.0 (Is that correct?)

I have no idea what the others numbers are however, the AN022 on the new pinion is also inscribed on the ring gear.

I don't know what the 3,129 inscribed in the old pinion is...

Math says to subtract the NEW pinion from the old

2.45 - 0.0 = 2.45

I will be ADDING .00245 to the inner shim stack on top of the old shim stack total.

Thoughts?

Im guessing the 245 is also on the ring gear which would identify its a matched set.
Im also guessing the 3.129 is the pinion offset. Since its positive, that would be moved back from the carrier by .003129"
The new pinion shows 0.0. I would set it up with the factory shims and run a pattern and see where it falls.

Sent a question to Yukon. I got this back along with the included diagram:

The #s on the new pinion appear to be production / QA #’s not related to pinion depth.

The 245 on the old gear most likely will have that same 245 on the ring gear, these again would be production / QA#’s and not pinion depth numbers. They generally indicate the matched set after being lapped together.

3.129 on the old gear set appears to likely be what is referred to as a pinion checking dimension ( end of pinion head to axle centerline. )

The 0.0 on the new pinion is a pinion variance # ie: +/-0.000” pinion variance , we base that off the master housing dimension , just like the factory does, not the end of the pinion shaft.

Master housing dimension on that gear set is 5.000”
