I have a 1978 k10 with 350 and 350 trans. I replaced the starter switch and now it won’t start. They key is now locked in the ignition it will turn to crank but it won’t come out. I tried the trick with the ignition switch and screwdriver and it turns on the power but will not crank. This is my only vehicle. Please point me in the direction of fixing this. Do I need a whole new column now or do I need to bypass if ion and put it on a switch? Again please help. Thank you!!

There is some minor adjustment at the switch.
If you put the key in the run position, loosen the 2 screws and push the switch toward the actuation rod. Just until spring pressure is felt, then tighten screws. This should allow the start position on key cylinder to signal the start.
Also be sure the neutral safety switch wasn't disturbed during the switch replacement.
Quick test unplug the two write connector with purple wires.
Place a jumper wire across this connector, and test start position. If it cranks your neutral safety switch is bad or miss adjusted

Spoken like a true experienced wrench turner - the auto manuals should be worded and cover related issues like this response does.

So the key is stuck in the cylinder?
Did you try wiggling while you try and pull it out, or pushing in then out?
Mean it went in, it has to come out, you just need to find the sweet spot

^^ yes and when you get it out, don't use it anymore. If you have another key with no/less wear use that. Get a copy made of unworn key for future.
