Plug pattern

Was it running poorly, is that why you pulled them after 200 miles? Each cylinder the same or only a couple? I’m guessing bad fuel. The gap looks very wide to me.

Was running fine, getting ready for emissions. Over the years the HC has gone up little by little, think last time it was staring to get close to the limit. Figured I'd do plugs/wires check over carb/timing ect.

Bad gas could be a thing, I dont get a ton of miles on it so gas doesnt get cycled through like it should. But it does start easy and run fine.

I haven't gotten the other plugs yet, just thought that pattern was interesting, never seen it.

Just measured out .045. Factory HEI.

I see there's some discussion on the gap and varies from .035 - .045 from what I've read.

wow only 200 miles? you must be burning oil. that plug has a line right down the middle separating clean from too much carbon for 200 miles?

valves leaking directly on to plugs?

time for new valve stem seals?

you put any cleaners or anything in the gas tank recently?

maybe something in the fuel is washing oil deposits out of the intake and heads?

It's a relatively new engine. goodwrench crate, with about maybe 1k miles on it. The head studs pulled out (pressed in studs, kinda known) replaced w/ summit branded factory replacement heads - screw in studs. Those head have about maybe 200 miles on them.

I have my gap set at .35 if I remember correctly for my Blazer for stockish 350 same for the c10. I bet gas, mine doesn't get a lot of miles as well, and the fuel doesn't cycle through like it would with regular driving.

Screw the plug back in and tighten. Mark the top, then pull and see if the dark is on the intake or exhaust side. If it is on the intake side, the fuel is junk. If you are running the e10 stuff and not 100% gas, that should be on the intake side of the plug. If so, drain the tank, because I doubt you will pass the corruption test.

We can only get ethanol here. No real juice. Bad fuel is a possibility w/ not being able to put the miles on it - don't cycle through gas. I have a brake line leak in it that I've not been able to resolve yet so I dont drive it much. Got a new line but have to lift the engine a bit to get the line swapped through the engine mount.

Good idea on the marking, the plug bit, friend mentioned intake vs exhaust valve. I'll have to see if my old ass can get back up in there again. Haven't climbed around in there in a while, and I was feeling it last night.

Yeah, just put it back in, and marked. The ground side of the plug is basically the top - and if I'm looking at it right, for cyl#1 the intake is towards the back of the vehicle - so should be the intake side as @ktmoutfront mentioned.

Cyl #3 is identical, except the front of the vehicle is dark. So prob related to old gas in the thing.

Now I get to figure out how to get 15gals of old gas out of there and what to do w/ it...

Harbor freight has a cheap siphon/pump to get it out. Or, just drive through it and add some new as you go to dilute it.

Amazon has them as well.

Thought I'd follow up on this.

All of the plugs looked somewhat similar w/ a dark side and light side. Didnt empty the tank, it was half full, so now it's completely full, half w/ old gas and half w/ decent gas. I'll have to drive that out as soon as I can..

2 of the plugs, on passenger side were loose - not enough they were falling out but enough they were just finger tight. They were dark. That prob didn't help my emissions going up ea year... Low compression engine, w/ a leaky plug prob wasnt making awesome combustion. Also had a couple of vacuum leaks.

Got all that straight and got through emissions. Passed easily.

Now I gotta look at the park safety switch. it's screwing with me, have to jiggle/reposition the column shift to get it to start.

That's somewhere in the column? Is there an adjustment for that?
