I voted no.......for two reasons.....

1) My 83 isn't RUNNING!!!!! But soon after it is it will get one

2) I don't think first gen's have the problem most second gens do

Got the patch and brace after my first wheeling trip with the bigger K5's. Watching ktdesco check his frame/steering box for looseness with 37's was pretty convincing.

I bought the bolt-on brace, but haven't gotten around to install it yet. I lifted the K5 and am running 35s, but haven't wheeled it yet as I'm fixing some issues. I will have it installed before my first run, though!

I bought both- but only used the bolt in one. Hard to find welding shops in NYC who I trust to touch my frame work. But the bolt in one went in like 2002? Been good since!

frame brace

you should still tack it yourself or have someone else do it cause its really easy and worth it

weld on + hydro assist works fine for me.

bolt in brace & weld in patch pannel, also hydro assist will hepl take almost all the press off the frame at the box

Putting mine on this weekend. Probably won't need it with just 35's -but better than trying to fix a cracked frame. I am trying to do everything the "right way" the first time and hopefully avoid problems latter.

frame brace

I didn't think I needed one with 35's but I was wrong. About 2 week's after I put them on I kept hearing a popping noise comming out of the front driver side and it was pretty bad sound and all it was was a 1" hair line crack so I bought the brace from ORD and and it's been 4 years without a problem.

the ord brace was the first thing i got. when i bought my blazer only 1 bolt was holding on the steering box, it made the steering a little sloppy ;)

Wheel it hard once and it will crack...hell not even hard. I cracked my frame on my first trail run before I got the brace and sandwich kit. Make it your first priority. I'd say out of everything on the Chevy's, the steering is by far the suckiest part. The push/pull steering totally blows for wheelin, and I still run it. My next upgrade soon is hydro so I won't care. :D

Welded frame, added the weld on repair plate,ORD steering box brace, borgenson steering shaft, new tie rod ends and draglink ends. Steers great. :D

after ripping the gear off the frame and it breaking the bottom corner of my radiator and my frame bending and buckling there and 8 hours of reconstructive frame surgery I run both brakes.... :doah:

Here is a question; if your frame is not cracked do you still need the weld on patch? Will it add any strength to it if you frame is not cracked or is this only designed for cracked frames. I am clear on the bracket but ORD seems to point to the weld on patch being for already cracked frames.
