Poly transmission mount installation instructions.

Well i was checking out the k30 called sarge in the build section and midway down on the 48th page he has a clear shot of his poly mount with the extra bracket bolted in. Now i guess measurements will tell me if i need the extra piece or not i think...

Should have listed the post number instead of page number. Some of us have our page views set for fewer pages with more posts to view per page.

Ah yeah i forgot some have to be different. 474 is the post number. Or midway down on the last page of his build.

I got to work on my truck again today, and amidst finishing up putting my engine together, and getting it installed in the truck, I reinstalled my transmission mount including the "extra" bracket. I feel confident that this is the correct way to install it because I believe it does 2 things:

1. It distributes the load over the poly block.
2. It builds in some tension on the bolts, like a lock washer, and should keep them snugly torqued in there. I also used some thread locker.

These mounts fit the '84 and older trucks with the flat crossmember.

The top pic fits the '85 to '86 K-series and '87-'91 V-series trucks with the double and single hump crossmembers.

Suspicion confirmed.

I actually have the flat crossmember under my truck, which is a 85.

I knew there was no way in hell that big mount would work. Question is....is there a mid year split? who knows. dueslings truck is an 85 I believe and hes apparently using the big poly mount.

No mid-year splits as far as chassis and crossmembers go but there are splits in body changes.

Only the M-series trucks, military versions, retained the flat crossmembers on the 85, 86 and some 87 trucks. They never used the double humps or short adaptors.

Wouldn't be just the crossmember, the adapter is different too. Can't recall what the height difference is.

Right i was just thinking about that. Its clearly longer than everyone elses :D

The bolt hole dimension was different too. Oh well i guess im on the right track. Maybe the flat cross member has more clearance?

You sure your rig is an '85?

Post up the VIN so we can decode it.

Thanks for photo reference, I wasn't sure if the spacer was for another application or to be used as you showed. Also for others, the mount "compressed" itself once the Trans and transfer case were lowered down, so the bolts didn't have to do much drawing down.
