EDIT: Please see post #24 for the answer to this question, including a picture of my transmission mount correctly installed.

I went to put a new poly mount under my transmission today to match the new poly mounts that I'm putting under my engine, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right. Online, the instructions say that they can be installed in various ways for various vehicles. I can't figure out if I need that extra metal piece that's pictured, or just the poly block component. It all fits together great without the extra metal piece, so I'm not sure what that's for. :ears:

It's possible that the extra metal bracket is a shim, will the new poly mount sit on top of the metal bracket?

No, that bracket roughly fits into the top of the mounting block (they're sitting upside down in that picture). There's a protrusion of poly that fits nicely into the groove that's pictured on the metal bracket.

Dunno your truck but his is what I put under mine *84 K5 700r

These mounts fit the '84 and older trucks with the flat crossmember.

The top pic fits the '85 to '86 K-series and '87-'91 V-series trucks with the double and single hump crossmembers.

By "under it" do you mean between the mount and the transmission? I wondered that, but when you put them together like spoons, there's a ¼"-¼" gap between the bolt flanges. Just the middles make contact.

Well sorry, i guess i meant on top. The smaller trans mount has the same thing. I use the smaller 2WD style mount and it has the same type of plate. And the instructions say to install it. When you tighten the bolts evenly it will compress

Ok, I'll try putting it in there to see if it'll all fit together. I guess I can see how that would help to distribute the load over the whole block.

I was just about to start a thread about the same poly mount. Looks like we have the same energy suspension mount. I was eyeballing mine last night and its totally different from what was there originally. They look just like badmix's pic but i have the single hump crossmember on my 85 k5 700/208.

Im thinking that the tranny adapter mounts to the two holes on top of the poly mount and the metal legs go to the crossmember? Im pretty lost on how this is going to work but maybe it will?

Pretty sure that's the mount I installed 5+ years ago (the one still in the truck), I just looked and I used the plate. Plate against the feet of the adapter, on top of the mount.

As pictured, set mount on top of plate, flip over, install. :)

1 ton guys, any chance that plate would make up the difference in frame rail height? I can never remember what was different on the one tons, short of the frame height.

Either that, or does it provide support to the urethane to keep it from potentially cracking in that location? I can't see what the underside of the mount looks like.

Once under the truck you will quickly see that this method won't work. dyeager's method will work. You could probably get away with getting rid of the bracket, as a lot of guys do, but I do think it goes in there to help distribute the load to more parts of the poly mount.

The one ton frames are way bigger. I don't remember how much but I think ose to 2"

The only way to fit that bracket in there is if it were spooning with the top of the mounting block. As such it won't add much of anything to height.

This is what I think is correct. There's a long channel of poly that fits into the bracket which I believe keeps it located. The reason for my confusion is that if you put it in there like that, there's a ½" gap or so between the bolt holes on the bracket and those on the block. I suspect this is for adding some pre-loaded tension into the system when you bolt it together. Should also help prevent the bolts from rattling loose.

I noticed it looked like that second piece on mine has a bit of a gap on the inner edges near the bolts, I suspect the bolts did "snug it up" and it's under tension across the middle.

that's the way mine is, just can't tell if they put the plate over the top on that one. Almost looks like not, but the metal seems pretty thick.

That image shows it without the extra bracket installed. That's how mine is currently installed, and the way Deuling's is installed. When I get back to my truck Saturday, I'm going to install the bracket and post a pic for further consideration.

Ok good to know. I definitely couldnt put the other bracket over my tcase adapter so im at a loss of what to do with that. I think its plenty strong...

Strength in numbers lol. Much appreciated if you get a few pics.
