Popular mufflers

I just had Magnaflows put on mine (5x8x18) duals. Sounds great at idle and cruise. Nice deep tone without "gurgling" like some Flowmasters. But during hard acceleration, they're freaking LOUD. Sounds like glass packs with high pitched crackling. I may end up swapping them out for something quieter.

Right now I have a single glass pack on my Blazer, I without a doubt consider it on the quieter side. It doesn't sound bad, but it sounds like an old grain truck, being a low-compression 80's small block with 200,000 miles.

Although, I think that might be in favor of the truck, because it is so plain-jane, with its plain white paint job and plain white steel wheels, that on more than a few occasions people have taken me for some kind of government employed person. I've actually though about taking the stickers off the back window, throw some more antennas on it, and just phuck with people.

Also, I would be more than happy to give your newly evicted super-10's a home. Although probably not on the Blazer.

FYI-the longer the muffler the quieter it is.

I have a set of knock off flowmasters on my Blazer... No cats, bout 4 feet of pipe on each side and downdowns right before the rearend... Has a noticeable idle, loud when your in it, and quiet crusing.. My tires are louder than the exhaust crusing

I have 40s on my short bed and its really too loud to drive a commute with. Part of my problem is its only a half exhaust w/ 2.5 duals though. I'm going to run a full exhaust to the back as part of my LS swap.

A good thing to remember is you can add a resonator pre-muffler. It will tame the noise but.the muffler will still set the tone. The longer the resonator the quieter it will get. Just in case maybe you want to try to not throw out what you have.

Can you guys talk louder? I can't hear anything from listening to my supertrapps all weekend

I was soooo close to putting on ear muffs on the drive back home today

I have duel fm40s on mine and their loud as hell. The wife can hear me coming home from a mile away she says. It's either my blazer or a plane landing on the house. Lol. Next set will be 50s I think. Less noise but atill strong sound. I've heard a lot of good things about magniflo too. A cat will calm down the sound too if you get a high flow one it won't hurt performance. I had to put one on when I bought my 94 since it came from a non smog county. It cut out about a quarter of the sound but since its a high flow didn't hurt performance too bad.

my 87 had a factory style cat on the 3" single and straight pipe in place of the muffler when I bought it... :eek1: ran that around for 2 or 3 yrs... :haha:

The dynomax bullets may be on the loud side for you too. I personally liked the sound of my exhaust best when I had flowmaster 44's and full tailpipes.
Here is a sound clip of my 92 with dynomax bullets. The exhaust is very short and dumped at the end of the cab.

I had this setup for awhile with just a turndown after the gigantic cat. Also drove for a couple years like this. Really wasn't too bad. My current headers/super44s/no-cats setup is far louder.

always surprised me with how "reasonable" it sounded.. :haha:

this may be what i end up trying, just so i dont have to ditch the whole system

Edit: do you think a 16" long resonator will quiet it down so i can talk in the cab?
