1991 K5 (technically it was called a V10 Blazer by then, but I still call it a K5)
6.2 J-code - According to the air cleaner tag it is an RPO LMM engine rated at 165HP - engine has about 60k original miles on it :D
4L60 trans (aka 700R4) built with the Good Stuff
NP241 t-case
10b front axle, 4.56's with an Eaton E-Locker
14bsf rear axle, 4.56's with an Eaton E-Locker
37" Dick Cepek FC-II's on 15" soft-8 steelies

Sometime after the above engine bay pics were taken I added a 2nd battery (which made a HUGE increase in cranking speed - she starts easy now) and changed out the leaky, plugged brass radiator for a new aluminum/plastic jobbie from a NBS Vortec 454 app (same height and width as the OBS diesel radiator!).

In a week or two she will go under the knife again. This time, the 6.2 and 4L60 are going buh-bye, and a 12V Cummins and SM465 will take it's place. Gears will change from 4.56's to 3.23's to give good highway gearing. The NP241 will be retained for now, but will eventually be replaced with a 203-205 (maybe even a Lo-Max 205) doubler setup for better trail gearing.

Axles may get swapped out in the future. If so, it will be to a 3.21 geared ARB locked 14bff in the rear and a 3.25 geared ARB locked 609 setup in the front.

Sometime after the Cummins swap she will go under the knife again, but this time for cosmetic surgery. I have all the sheetmetal needed to restore her original un-wrinkled Sheet Metal Gang status. She will still see the trails afterwards, but no hard core metal crunching stuff. Mainly expedition, camping, and hunting duties. I want it to be nice enough that I won't be embarrassed to pick up a date in it :D

Here is a picture of my rig! She is still under construction, but here are the current specs:

- 1985 GMC K5 Jimmy Sierra Classic with a 90 base model W/T front clip
- 6.2L Diesel turbocharged with a GM-3 off a 93 6.5L. Running a 3" straight pipe outside the frame, and currently working on an S10 airbox
- NV4500 / NP241 with electric speedometer out of a 90 Suburban. ESS vac pump for a tach down the road
- 4.56 gears with an open D60 front axle (needs SRW conversion) and ARB locked 14 BSF out back
- Shackle flip out back using 3/4 ton front hangers in the rear. Needs longer shackles, and zero rates to re-center the rear axle
- 4" lift springs up front.
- Needs longer shocks front and rear (going to go long travel to accommodate 56s up front eventually)
- Procomp extended SS braided brake lines
- Cobra CB radio installed on the center console
- Currently rolling on 285/75R16s, but I have just put a deposit on a set of 34x10.5x16" Interco LTBs

The truck looks really rough, with a rusty / beat up front clip & doors, but the tub is very solid. I plan to seal and paint the tub & good sheet metal I have stashed away next spring.

This truck is going to be used primarily for wheeling and hunting in the fall.

Here's my ride.

'90 K5 that I bought all stock in '94 with 49k on the ticker.

original and untouched 241 (leaks bad, is getting rebuilt soon)
1350 slip yoke rear driveshaft, stock front shaft
14FF rear, 4.10's, welded diff
D60 front, 35-spline chromo stubs, flanges, new non-neck Spicer inners and joints, Lock-right, 4.10
4" TC HD front springs
Sky shackle flip in back on stock springs
39.5" TSL's, 15x8 rims w/ 2.75" BS (redneck beadlocks)

Watch your drag link with the 37's. Mine ate up the forward grease boot on hard right turns.

Thanks for the warning, but i am too big a p&*^y to cut the fenders at stock height so i can't steer it at all right now with the 37's on it. I am piecing together a 4" lift, i am down to needing extended brake lines, a set of zero rates, and all 4 shocks

Even so, it'll rub the drag link, lift or not. The backspacing on those factory rims pulls the sidewall in towards the draglink.

Oh shocks - JCWhitney and get the Rough Country Nitro 9000's. Good stuff.

Here's my new 6.5
6.51500.jpg
6.5 eb.jpg

98 K1500 6.5 TD, 46000 miles. 4L80E, 14Bsf 3.73 12.50 x 33 x15 Mts. Just put in a powertrax no slip. Relocated new PMD High and dry behind the grille next to the headlight. 2.5 crossover, 3" downpipe.. Somehow the soot trap just fell off. amazing how poop like that happens. Cleaned out the upper intake. realised i had better let my die grinder have its way with it for a little better air flow. Fun truck. Lotta tire burnin power for a 1/2 ton.
Oh... it has a locking hard Snugtop bed cover too keep all my spare parts, and getting unstuck stuff ( prolly going to need it with IFS) safe.:D

I doubt he's using the humvee radials on the original M1028 16"wheels. That said my plans are to mount 37/12.5/16 Parnelli Jones on the factory 16/6.5 steel wheels. Wondering what will happen to the drag link . . .

Sorry for hijacking this thread.
