And slowly upgrading all interior and exterior bulbs to LED.
Getting there, slow and steady wins the race.

Almost drop in, very little work required. Check my "Pure chevy sex" thread.

Aside from stereo, electric fans and new relay headlights, I went backwards in the convenience area: CC removed, carpet and plastic interior stuff removed, falling off silverado junk removed, sagging headliner removed, etc. AC currently not working, but I intend to fix that one.

My stereo is in sad shape at the moment too really. I installed a replacement in the early 90's, complete with 10 disc CD changer! At this point, I'd be happy if I could find just an amp with a mini plug where I could attach my phone, maybe build a solid mount for the phone. I have to get up under the dash and fix an intermittent speaker issue too.

I have the parts for the front brake upgrade, just waiting on wheels, tires, and a 6 bolt 9.5" rear to fall my way....

I upgraded my stereo with a 600 dollar one in 2000 and now it quit on me finally. engine components like hei and a msd box. Not much else got done besides 3/4 ton conversion. But that is still using older stock components from newer trucks. Not a whole lot electronic gizmos I want to put into the 72. I'll leave that to @ryoken

I got to say, driving the K5 home from work this afternoon with a modern stereo was quite nice.. Cruising along at 70, windows down and the tunes cranked- fed from my phone via bluetooth. Then my wife called. Rings over the stereo, hit the button to answer it and the music mutes and I'm able to talk to the better half and the phone is sitting on the console. Pretty surprising to me the phone call quality with the windows down was pretty good.

An up to date bluetooth compatible deck is totally worth it. Prices are very reasonable too.

Where did you get your stereo blank that you mounted the rocker switches to? Looks slick. I just got my Tuffy console, so I was trying to figure out what I was going to do to cover that blank space where the head unit is currently sitting.

i don't know if electric fan, electric fuel pump and polyurethane trans mount count, because that stuff has been around for a while?

The digital tach (cyberdyne) probably does count as a "modern" convenience though?

2) Anyways, when autonomous/or supercruise kits become available will you retrofit them on your truck?
There are some things i like about the technology, but i probably wouldn't due to cost and complexity.

Chopped up a broken old stereo and fitted a switch panel to the radio housing. It pulls out like a radio would from the mounting cage. Basically gutted the radio, used screws and epoxy to fit the switch plate to it.

mine is of course still in the build phase but I have plans for cellular starting as well as back window/gate opening.

Blue tooth stereo for streaming music and a tablet for GPS purposes. Both the cell phone dock and tablet have audio jacks as well as charge ports.

110v power outlets in the cab and back near the tailgate. Probably put some USB charge ports near these as well.

Updated AC system. Cruise control will be added yet but may do this with a cable rather than the traditional way.

Intermittent wipers are a must in my book.

I did the retractible engine bay light too. Headlight bulbs are LED H4 conversions in KC headlights. And two LED spot/flood lights on the bumper.

Come to think of it, i guess I also did the modern AC upgrade too, with a Sanden compressor and parallel flow condenser. BTW: I made all the AC lines myself. Anybody here need AC lines made, let me know. You buy the hoses and fittings, and i'll cut and crimp them for ya.
