Where do you get those retractable lights?

Incidentally, is there anything you can drop into the dome light spot that is brighter?

The retractable underhood lights were factory on I believe 88 or 89 and up trucks. My 89 has one. As for the dome lights, LMC sells an led kit for it that comes with a more reflective housing, led white bulb and a clear lens which amounts to much brighter interior lighting.

I found brighter LED domestic lights for less money on ebay. You have to check though, as some of the stuff listed comes directly from China. That takes some time.
I bought the clear lenses from LMC to fit 4 of my trucks, and they work well! I used the factory housings.

If you can't find a retractable light locally, I believe that I have a couple. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Got my retractable light on eBay for $20 with pigtail!

Boneyards for the retractable lights. 88-91 squares had them. The GMT400 trucks also had them from 88 up into the mid 90's. Nice thing is the wiring harness has it's own fuse for it.

That makes me think that I should pull the one out of my Jimmy! I have never used it . .
:dunno:

Why remove it? You never know when you might need it. The cord on them is damn near 20' long, it has a magnet on the back end of the lamp and could be a lifesaver if you have to work on the motor, underside of the truck or even change a tire - it will reach the back wheel wells no problem!

I had no idea that the cord was that long!
I said that more as a joke! I usually have other lights that are better. I guess I could look for a LED to put in it..

I thought about adding one and decided that my flashlight and D-cell lantern are vastly more useful (as they are portable instead of teathered).

I put an LED bulb in mine and it's pretty dang bright. These things came in a two-pack, so i threw one bulb in the retractible under hood light and the other in my under dash light.

Unless the batteries are dead, which they always seem to be. With the magnet feature, I'd use it as a work light for under the truck. I'm always cussing as I try to balance a flashlight and too lazy to dig out my real light from its box and plug it in.

Magnetic flashlight.

Dead batteries are a concern, though.

I have the LED bulbs in all mine too, and replaced the weak magnet with a little rare earth magnet that I glued on with shoegoo.
