Ok so after I got the new steering gear box put in for my crossover steering I tried to bleed the system. I had the truck on jack stands and turned the wheel lock to lock every time I turned the wheel left it puked fluid from the cap.

running engine or not ?

always fill / turn wheels engine off till no more fluid is taken in p/s system .

then fire for 5sec or so and shut off. recheck/fill if needed . then fire up and cycle system and fill as needed.

as to hydro assist there is a few good threads on how to blead the ram out before you bolt it to the axle .

I was doing this with engine off , what caused the pump to puke when Turing the wheels? I also found the high pressure line needs to be replaced. If it was sucking air in would that cause it to blow out the cap?

Turn the wheel back and forth very slowly, wheels off the ground, to bleed, until no more bubbles come out.

Ok I'm sure it's a stupid question but do I leave the cap off the power steering pump?

The only stupid question is the one not asked, cap should be off. If possible get some to turn the wheel for you while you watch the pump. As said before just turn the wheel side to side slowly until no more bubbles are visible.

I have always bled the system with the wheels off the ground, engine running, with the cap on. Crank the wheels lock to lock about 20 times then check the fluid level for full and any air bubbles.

Ok I got the bleeding down but now I have more problems. The high pressure line will not seal. I installed a gear box from agr that I got from my dad. Are there any difference between a 77 and a 83? I thought I had it bled but as soon as I started it and turned the wheel I couldn't turn the wheels and it blew from the high pressure line

77 should be 45* seat line fittings .

83 should be o-ring seal fittings .

this will be your sealing problem at hose ends for box .

How do I swap the rear fitting on the power steering pump? I'm also thinking I need to upgrade my pump can I install an. 83ish pump?
