Power Steering box..

81 Suburban on an 83 Blazer? I don't see why not. I have the box from an 87 burb in my 78 pickup and it works fine. Just had to make lines that had the O-ring style fitting on one end and flange style on the other. That was the only difference for me, though I don't know what the cut-off year was.

My power steering box is leaking like a sive, and i have a 81 burb 2wd will it work on my 4x4 blazer?

The two wheel drive box will bolt up but the pitman arm swings side to side instead of front to back. It will work if you want to go to crossover steering and the same time :)

Or you can take 30 seconds and swap the sector shafts.

The box will work but the sector shaft is different from 2wd to 4x4. You can swap the good box and just put the 4x4 shaft in to the 2wd box tho. :D

Is replacing the seal out of the question? It is not a hard job to do.

i dont know i did a 3 inch body lift and i forgot to extend the shaft before lifting and i did it after i put the lift on and its leaking out of the box where it connects to the steering shaft is that the seal?

Remove the sector shaft nut(big arrow) and pitman arm.

remove the 4 bolts that hold the shaft in place(little arrows)....I would pull the aluminum cap with the shaft, but that is just me. Tap on the shaft with a soft faced malett and it should pull right out the top of the box...Have the steering straight....

ok but its leaking from the seal that hooks to the steering shaft that goes to the steering wheel.

So you're leaking out the input shaft seal? You can take that off too, it's just an O-ring. There's a big "nut" that you can take off with a hammer and punch. It's made out of stamped metal and has little notches in it, you can just punch the notches counterclockwise.

UPDATE:

I just got done in the dunes and its leaking again i thought i fixed it but i didnt.

Do i need a pickle bar to get the power steering box off the steering arm to the bar? Or what do i need to do to have cross over steering would that be easier?

Its a seal , and its easy . You just have to remove the rag joint , push the seal in to cock it to one side , remove with needle nose pliers ( good strong pair ) , and push new seal in with same size socket as seal . There will be snap rings there too .

You don't have to remove the big nut just to do the seal . At least I didn't have to on a 80's box .

neat, thanks :D

do normal parts stores like napa and o reilly and such have the seal ?

thanks!

Yep. You will probably have to buy an entire rebuild kit though.

well **** that sucks then

what kind of seal is it ?

is it really just an o ring ?

or what ?

cant i find something at farm supply to seal it with then ?

im not gonna buy a whole kit just for one seal that it needs

its a great box otherwise

always a damn catch.

hum

thanks
