Power Steering box..

My box leaks from the same place REALLY BAD!!!! It pisses just sitting there. I was going to change it but dont you think its easier to just get a remanned box? Aside from the price of course. I need to look for an exploded view of a box.

Yep. You will probably have to buy an entire rebuild kit though.

Do you don't have to buy a complete rebuild kit. Just goto the auto parts store and ask for an input seal kit for said yr box. Should come with only a few parts.

ok i asked at oreillys and all they have is a seal kit for them for 28 bucks

does anyoen have a pic of the input seal ?

is it flat or cone or rubber or material or packing or what ?

what can i use ? can i find something at plumber or hardware store ?

thanks

Dude, I got the seal kit from autozone for $10. It works perfectly, I just need to get some better snap ring pliars to reinstall my snap ring. You don't have to remove your sector shaft, you can actually turn the steering all the way to the left after you have removed the snap ring and first washer.. the pressure will blow the 2 seals and other washer right out. The instuctions tell you how. I linked to the part number in my thread about it, which is at the top of the garage right now. Here's what the kit looks like:

what kinda seal is it ?

looks like a wheel seal kind of seal in that pic

what seal kit did you ask for ? input one or entire box one?

thanks

Where are you leaking from, the rag joint area, or are you gushing fluid from your sector shaft straight down onto your pitman arm? This was the sector shaft seal kit. Not a complete kit. Its only 10 dollars.

That is the pitman shaft seal kit..

If you need the seal where the steering colum rag joint bolts on,the Chicago-Rawhide # is 7905 for 73-88 GM's..67-72 boxes use a #8660 seal there..both take a # B148 bearing also..

If you have a 56-59 with OEM P/S,the number is 8648 for the seal.the B148 bearing fits them also..(all according to an old SKF/Chicago Rawhide catolog I have..)

Seal for the P/S pump pulley shaft is 7475...

I've never had much luck re-sealing or adjusting power steering boxes..I usually look for a clean dry one on a junkyard truck, with low mileage if possible..they sell for 50-150 bucks around here ..usually by the time they leak, everything else inside is pretty worn out too.....
