I've added hydro boost to the blazer and wanted to add a cooler but read that it need to be lower than the reservoir.
72 Blazer, one tons, 40s, no assist ram, factory style power steering pump which keeps the reservoir pretty low. If I put it in front of the radiator like a standard cooler it is significantly higher than the pump and reservoir. Anybody run a cooler behind the grill with a factory style setup and no problems with it flowing back into the reservoir and overflowing it or getting air in it?
Thanks Sean

On my 84 K10, I run a Derale cooler up near the top of the radiator, fed from the side (horizontally), and definitely higher than the pump. I had it like this for a few months with no problems before I went to hydro assist, when I also added a extended reservoir to the top of the pump.

Yes that’s exactly how you do it.
There’s a molded angled fuel filler neck hose that is good to have it pointing straight up so you can put a support bracket on it under the hose clamp.

I run a steering cooler on my 1-ton truck that came stock with hydro-boost. I would say my cooler is about level with the pump, and have had no problems yet.

From Right to Left: Trans Cooler, Oil Cooler, Steering Cooler. Behind them is Condenser and Radiator.

Sean there was a factory p/s cooler option. I think it bolted to the cross member under the radiator. PM me your email address and I'll send you a factory catalog image.( 85-91 Era I think).

I don't have hydroboost, but I have a cooler that is considerably higher than the pump. No issues in 5 years.

I had an 83 GMC K-3500 with a 454 that had the reservoir atop of the alt bracket and it had factory P/S cooler lines that ran through the top driver side of the radiator support and was about the same height as the reservoir - these lines did not have any cooling fins attached.
I only saw this on the 81~84 trucks with hydro boost set up and gas motors but that doesn't mean that it did not come on later model stuff, I only noticed it on the early eighties trucks.
