You can remote mount a cooler anywhere you want, it just won't be as effective unless it has a stand alone fan.
Just a standard oil filter. I have been using them for years with good results. I used to use the Delco inline P/S filter, but the last couple/few I installed leaked around the crimped seam, so I figured I'd try something different. Othr than the initial investment of the filter head, the filters are cheaper than the inline units I used prior.

Sounds as though the OP has corrected his p/s heating issue, but thought I'd throw in on this as well. I have hydro assist without hydro boost and I'm running a modified stock pump with a plate style trans cooler (purchased thru Summit, B&M brand but doubt they make it) that is only 6" tall and 12" wide (maybe 10" wide) and don't really have a problem...ever.
I (the original poster) have had a steering cooler on mine for a few years, I was interesting in seeing how many people run them.

Sorry, my bad. Didn't mean anything by it.
It's my opinion that everyone who offroads should have one. Several buddies that do not have hydro assist still run p/s coolers to avoid overheating. Frying a p/s pump brings the suck.

I have a tranny cooler from a toyota pickup that I use for a steering cooler.
I have the factory tube coil "cooler" but I plan to add a small tranny cooler tube soon.

i run a oil cooler from a 04-05 ford f350 with the 6.0 diesel engine.just plumbed it into my return line.

I run a heavy duty trans cooler on mine. I haven't had any heating issues in 2 years with this set up. On the left in the pic is my trans cooler and the right is the power steering cooler. I am running a PSC set up.

Look at my grill, you can see two coolers infront of the rad, the center is oil and the one on the right/drivers side is PS cooler. I just ziptied them to my grill, keeping them out front out of the engine bay helps insure they are getting hit with fresh air
and not touching the rad keeps heat transfer for happening too.
I have this style cooler mounted now. As a side note they can be a challenge to bleed. ~40 turns lock to lock or more to purge out the air. It took me a few attempts.

It's a spin on tranny filter for bigger trucks. Fram PH1653A on a housing / bracket you can get from probably any industrial or HD truck parts shop. I mounted it strap style exhaust clamp. Again can be found at HD Truck parts stores.
What is the advantage of the filter? More fluid?

Just thought it's a good idea. More volume and filtering fluid when a pump's involved isn't a bad idea. Those filters are cheap and the housing cost me about 30 bucks.
