Ok i have a 97 chevy 3/4 4x4 with the 6.5 in her.Heres the problem last night i went to start her and the steering was rock hard after a while of sitting there it started to work then the pump was gowling. I popped the hood and the cap for the power steering pump was in 2 pieces and blown off the pump.So i got a new cap and filled her up everything was fine. Went to leave buddys house last night and it did it again any ideas the pump is 6months old. Thanks Denny

My 98 would lock up once in a while like that. Never blew the cap of the res. though.

Turns out I had destroyed nearly everything inside the steering gear. The Sector shaft and outer end of the worm gear were about the only good parts left.

This is my daily driver and has never done this before and i have not hit anything like that or abused it to the point that the internals should be shot.
