5 months ago when i locked the front axle up I knew it would put extra stress on my steering system, I ended up blowing out the front seal on the stock PS pump. I replaced all the lines, the pump, and the box. I used a remanufactured pump to try and save some money, and put it in. Its not an easy replacement, and its a mess. 2 weeks later, pump shaft snapped. I got a new box from napa, and then installed it. Now the front pump seal leaks when I am off road and locked up. Got ANOTHER box, same story....
Is there any hope to have a nice sealed, non-leaking system? I just want to put one pump in and be done. I have a huge PS cooler on there to keep temps down, and to add more fluid to the system. It still insists on leaking.

Got a weird question for you.
Any chance the pump is being spun backward?
I know that serpentine and non-serpentine water pumps run backward from each other, but I don't think there is a difference in the PS pump.

But, some of the older trucks had fairly complicated belts, with one driving the other.
I know that often hydraulic pumps will blow out front seals if spun backwards.

The only other things I can think of are the seal being damaged when the pulley is installed, and something major binding in the steering causing large amounts of pressure on the system.

Its fairly unusual for the front seal to leak.
You are putting the pulley on with a bolt or a removal tool, right?
Not pressing it on or driving it on with a hammer.

Its just run by one pulley on my 86' so i doubt i am spinning it backwards. I install them with the pusher tool. One time I had my friend do the entire thing because I thought i was messing it up, but it still leaked. It's only after i lock the front and really start to put some pressure on the system.
Maybe i should look at a higher quality pump, PSC high performance pump maybe?
