Can't seem to find a stock power steering pump outlet fitting (16mm) at Advance or AC delco website.

Any suggestions?

i know, the junkyard, but i would prefer new.

My old pressure line won't separate from the fitting so i had to take both out together.

The v-8 line is too short for the 4.3 (the front of the 4.3 sits about 4.5" further back than the 8......) which is why i had to take the old pressure line off.......

In the meantime i will continue to try the loosen the old line from the fitting though.

That is not a part that can be bought new anywhere that i'm aware of. The junkyard or post in the wanted section for the fitting.

I have a few 3/8 flare style pump bungs (pre-80's) on old pumps I saved ,but have now rusted the "can" enough to probably leak if I went to use them..:doah:
I'd be willing to part with one of the bung fittings if that would help you..

On those pre-80 pumps you can just use a length of 3/8" tubing and flare fittings to extend an original hose..

I assume by 16MM you mean yours has the o-ring "swivel" type hose end with metric threads ?..I'll look, but I'm pretty sure all the pumps I have are the older SAE flare bung style..not the newer metric threads..

If you scroll down to the middle of this page, i need part labeled #1:

i'm just surprised, given the billions of pumps produced from 1961 to like 2009 the NO-ONE produces this fitting?

BTW, i just totally rounded off the 16mm fitting from the original pressure line that screws into THIS fitting. Its not coming out.

P.S.i hear that the SAE fitting is close enough to the metric that it will screw in place of the metric.

if fitting is out of pump and line will not be reused .

cut line off . to get a socket on the nut .

then heat the nut up glowing and remove .

there is nothing to realy hurt with the heat at this point .

hope this helps .

and these get reused all the time with pump replacements = why there not available much aftermarket .

You can clamp the hex portion of the pump bung fitting in a vise, and use a pipe wrench on the boogered line nut,you might need a cheater pipe on the handle to get it to come loose...usually they'll come free with a loud "crack",then they'll come out with your fingers, once the hose fitting has been "freed"..

I think you can screw in an old style flared bung into a newer P/S pump, the outer threads are still the same--its the threads for the hose in the bung that are different--the metric ones use a 16mm thread with an O-ring and a "ring" flange on the hose tubing, the old style are a typical 3/8" SAE flare fitting with 5/8 x 18 thread ..

Ok, cool i got it off----i used a vice grip on the pressure hose end though. Thanks for the tips.

Next problem:

i've just found out that the pressure hose end size is that goes into the steering box is 16mm and apparently the old one is 18mm. If i splice in the old end to the new line using fuel injection hose will this be good enough to withstand the high pressure?

i also want to flare the ends of both sides of the tubes just to insure a leak free connection.

i ordered ac delco part # 36-356240 high pressure hose for 85-87 4.3 equipped trucks. My truck is an 83 so apparently the steering box in 85 on up changed to 16mm outlets?

P.S.

i am not against building a custom hose provided someone could tell me exactly which parts to get. Very confusing---for example do i need o-rings for A/N fittings?

Actually this is all stupid; i think an original v-8 line could work provided it is angled---SWIVELED differently out of the box---this way it can reach back far enough. And you can swivel with these type fittings.

So all this work and i'm back to buying and using a stock v-8 line. :doah:

But tell me about adapting lines for future reference.......

Ok, i got powercraft pt# 71088 stock v-8 line at Advance auto a few mins ago and put everything back on.

The fittings don't seem to go all the way into the steering box before bottoming out. Is this normal?

Some aftermarket hoses have longer thread fittings than stock,so they'll fit more applications--as long as it screws in several threads before bottoming and it tightens OK,and no leaks,it should be fine..it is normal for an o-ring type fitting to allow the hose to be swiveled with some effort once it is tightened down, dont try to crank it tighter, thinking its still "loose"..

As for adapting lines,no way will rubber hose and clamps work on the pressure side of the system!..only flared tubing with unions are safe--some guys trust compression fittings,I wouldn't...you can cut the steel tubing, slide on a tubing nut, flare it,and do the same to the other end and use a union to join the two sections of tubing together..

I've done engine swaps where the truck had the "old" flared fittings on the steering box,and the new o-ring ones on the pump on the later engine I had to buy two hoses and have both cut in half and hydraulic pipe thread fittings crimped on ,so I could screw them together, rather than hunt down the proper steering box or pump, when they weren't the same..
Then I found out all I had to do was swap the bung fitting in the pumps!.:doah:..but its something you might still end up doing on some swap,so its good to know..

Don't use clamps on the pressure side, but they are OK on the return.

One way to get a replacement fitting would be to buy a reman pump. Some of these are very cheap and you could turn it back in as your core without that fitting.
