Powerstroke vs Duramax power ratings

and that's why we see some bone heads towing 25K with their pickups.
Correction: 32k
I saw a guy pulling a 32k lbs trailer with his cummins powered dodge, I asked him why the dodge and not a big rig, he said he just had it, so it made sense.
He was getting 5mpg pulling the 32k lbs trailer, or 38k gross.
I am getting 8mpg when pulling that much, 7 when I pull the full load 80k lbs.

CAT C12 12.0 litre, 1675lbs tq with 425hp, one of the smallest engines available these days

Yeah he must not put alot of thought into how well it would stop that much weight.

Well he had the exhaust brake on the truck and the trailer has the brakes to stop the weight on it, you don't really think the tractors have that much stopping power?
It's a combo, and each piece does it's share of stopping, the pulling is where it's at with these trucks.:D

I do understand all that. But the frame trans. and brakes just aren't made for that.

i'll bet that Dodge was doing its share of the stopping......
Oh I am sure it did, it also depends on the loading, the driving style...
I have driven some scary setups in my life and when i started driving big rigs... WOW.
I can drive an 80 K rig loaded full and drive 75 MPH thru so much **** without batting an eye, I couldn't even dream of driving a 1 ton truck with a 20 foot car trailer with a car on it the same way.
:doah:
The fifth wheel style and the size of those rigs makes them so stable and safe.
:waytogo:

I think its scary what some of these ****heads try to pull with a 3/4 or one ton pickup.

Just because it pulls it doesnt mean the truck can handle it or stop it.

Therein lies the problem with the newer trucks. Guys will pull anything the truck will pull. I know people with newer duallys that don't even know what their trailer restrictions are, some that do and ignore them on a regular basis.

The trucks have so much power its very easy to pull something way heavier than you can safely pull. In addtion to that they can pull faster. If I was pulling a triple axle gooseneck that grossed 19500 I would probably keep my speed at 65 but I know guys who pull that load at near 80!

I am SO guilty of pulling way to heavy with my pickups I've grossed near 40,000lbs a few times.

But I triple my following distance, make sure my brakes are tip-top and I have a bad ass Pac-brake. and I tend to keep my speeds in check ( mostly to save my tires)

the guys that freak me out are the 3/4 ton shortbed ex-cab guys!!! they just dont have the wheelbase to be pulling heavy. the trailers just kick there ass
