I'm planning on being in the Moab area before Blazer Bash again this year. I'd say pulling in on Labor day.

The idea I'm kicking around is to map out a solid 3 days on dirt, getting back into Moab on Thursday to be ready for BB trails on Friday. Around the Moab area, but staying out of national parks because campsites are already picked clean and limitations on group size. There is a LOT of dirt to cover outside of Canyonlands. Not looking to be extreme rock crawling, but there could be some technical stuff encountered.

Here are some rough guidelines to think about. One has to be completely self-reliant for 3 days in the dirt. Food, water, and fuel. Completely stock height rigs on small tires might struggle a lot depending on trail choice. I think a 4" lift, 33-35" tire and open diffs could work but at least one traction device on either end would make the run less stressful. Keep in mind, that the goal here is to be driving and enjoying the scenery and not working on our junk. Stuff happens, but having a rig prepped for some challenging terrain will limit some of the issues with taking a stocker out on some of these trails.

Meet up in Moab on Monday. Stock up on any last-minute provisions, and hit the dirt to be in camp before time to make dinner. So we would end up camping not too far out of Moab. Next two days would have no hard target, but drive until we feel the need to stop. Driving back to Moab Thursday.

So anybody interested? Speak up. If one wants to come along and has an idea on trail selection, throw it out here. We can discuss trail choice and planning here.

I would like to do a trip like this over black bear pass and imogene pass at some point.
That’s on my list to do this year but probably not leading into Blazer Bash.

One thing that would interest me is Elephant Hill, but maybe it's not a good on to try and do with @ZooMad75's trip. There are 24 day use permits issued each day, and you apply for them the day before the trip. I haven't done this with previous Blazer Bash trips because it's quite a drive from Moab. I think @TDAWG1 is the only person I've talked to that has done the trail, so I don't know a lot about it. I don't know if it's a good choice for the camper trucks either.

I don't know, it's just a thought I wanted to throw out.

It’s certainly not out of the question but going into Canyonlands has its own kind of issues. Besides the obvious issue of possibly not getting one of the 24 day use passes that day is the lack of camping that may require reservations. I need to look into the camping side more though. The other issue is there is a limitation on how many trucks you can have travel together. The national park limits groups to 3 vehicles.

As it sits the group size may not be an issue. But missing out because the permit are taken is a real possibility. I usually map out multiple choices anyway.

Worth putting on the list to explore.

I was thinking the camping might happen outside of the park, but I don't know if that's feasible.

Camping outside is possible. The trail is not a loop so you end up linking up with other trails that can take you out of the national park.

Are you sure? I thought it was an in and back out type of trail. I just realized that Lockhart Basin connected in to that area.

You can take a way out off of Elephant hill on via cottonwood.

Though there looks to be a tight spot that may be too much for a full-size squarebody. That's a JK Jeep in a squeeze below.

the one time ive been up there was in a rented jeep. they would not allow us to take the jeep to black bear pass. after seeing it from across the valley, and seeing some videos, i can understand. there was a bad wreck a few weeks before, and there were fatalities. I kind of feel like its a bucket list thing, but at the same time, there is a lot to explore in that area. i will need to take oxygen with me if i go back up there.

altitude sickness over 12,000 feet ruined my day, and i spent most of the afternoon miserable in the back seat of a 4 door Rubicon. summit of Imogene is 13500? 13800 feet ?

The GF and I are leaving here either the Saturday or Sunday of labor day weekend, which puts us in Colorado on Tuseday ish (Sept 6th). Were planning to stay somewhere near Telluride that night and then drive up to Moab the next day.....kinda waiting to see what develops in this thread to see where we wanna be on what days. If plans are made to run some trails in Moab on Wednesday/Thursday then we will probably go straight to Moab....otherwise we are planning to spend at least one night in Colorado on the way out. My hotel in Moab is booked from Thursday thru Sunday so prior to that I'm flexible.

Put us down as a maybe. We think we're bringing the Silverado and S-10 this year as we're doing fullsize invasion the week after BB. I'm just not sure we want to drag the trailer all the way there just for a couple nights on the trail.

Bringing this back up as I’ve thought some on it.

I really want to run the white rim trail. But based on the zeros for campsite availability on recreation.gov I may have see if there are any openings the day I come in.

Second choice will be Lockhart basin and spend two days out there.

That’s the narrowed down loose plans at this point.

These two trails are easy to do in one day. I have driven from Grand Junction, ran these as a loop, and then back home to Junction in a day. Once in my '70 K10, once in a stock '95 S10 Blazer.

@ZooMad75 this sounds like a great time, but I won't be joining as my truck isn't a camper thing.
