Pretty bad oil leak with my 6.2 after stuck in mudhole, HELP UPDATE

You'll find the plugs go in way easier than they come out. Now is a good time to briefly apply 12V to each plug to make sure that they glow properly, and to carefully look for signs of swelling tips

And nope, don't have to, but having it off will free up a bit more room to manouver the nose cone around. Only tip I can add there is that the starter is friggin' heavy, don't drop it on your face!

thanks, ill update once i get the starter deal worked out and the oil changed, hope autozone can test 24v starters

well i got out there and put the plugs back in, no biggie, got under the truck and was brusing my knuckles pretty bad trying to get the starter off, and its out in the street so i cant get my compressor with the impact gun to it. Between that, and laying in the snow with dirt blinding me i said eff it. I figure id better let a shop do it in much cleaner conditions and if something else is wrong the trucks already in the shop. Dont even ask me how much its gonna be..

Lets just says when it comes to deep muddle puddles its one of those "well, im not doing that again" things.. Ill be content to pull others out. Trucks just too damn heavy

At least wait until your truck is ready for the mud... stock tires don't lend themselves to much in mud.

i have 33'' bfgs with the locker in the rear. I got stuck there last year with my stock blazer but it was twice as deep this year, or i woulda made it

Yeah you play with mud so many times after which you decide it's not worth it anymore.
I did my share of mudding, now I go around them.
I have laid in the mud a few times to start a truck that died in the mud, I have flushed water out of gas engines thru spark plug holes when a lose air cleaner lid let muddy water get in thru the carb, as I said I had my share of mud.
The last one was when my clutch fell apart litterally because when I got stuck in the mud and was rocking it back and forth to get out, which I did, dirt got in between clutch components and after 3 weeks of driving the sand and dirt wore the pices thin and pieces of metal and springs started falling under the truck and the truck strted to shake and shudder everytime I took off.:doah:

yeah, i mean i still wanna get my truck dirty, but nothing up to the bumpers or doors anymore, ill probably go half that height for the max depth. I know mud running is all about momentum too, but where im at you dont know whats under that water unless you go often so you can seriously screw your truck up hitting something hard. Plus i figure if i crawl in slow and start to slip you can back out. I just was too stupid this time. Still proud she pulled out that wrangler without any effort

well, the story from the mechanic is that the truck was only down 1 qt of oil and when he topped it off and started her up, she ran fine. No leaks, no noises, no nothing. He did say the water pump was leaking and had to be replaced. Im not sure what to make of this, im relieved but i dont know why iwould see a stream of oil and loose so much pressure that i heard the lifters, and now the truck is fine. Any ideas? Im just worried itll happen again. He said he saw all the alll when he removed the inspection plate but when he ran it he got nothing..

just reposting this here what i replied to my thread in the garage

Well, lets take it as good news! Take it easy for a while and keep an eye on your oil pressure gauge and run it as is!

well, ive been driving it and did some offroading and beat her up pretty good at one point over bumps and such, nothing. My only concern is she cranks over really fast and im hoping he didnt throw in a 12v starter because its a 24v system. I guess well see..

I'd call and double check if it doesn't seem right. Otherwise it's going to be going out just about the time the warranty is up.

yeah, the truck had its stock starter so i have nothing to compare it to,i guess well see, im waiting for it to blow up but so far so good

Glad to hear it wasnt anything major! I responded to some of your posts over on tdp...

I have to disagree with your title:
I wheeled my 2wd VAN long before I got my blazer.:D
I did put a Tcase in it in the last year to help with lower gearing but then got to some points where 4wd was needed so I got the blazer.:p:

ahh i see.. and you put a tcase in a 2wd van for the lower gearing? Like 4lo in 2wd? How did you deal with the front output and the adapter? sounds interesting

The front output would just spin without a driveline attached to it. The adapter would just require use of the correct output shaft in the transmission. The 2wd short shaft TH400 has the same output shaft length as a 4x4 TH400 with the figure 8 NP205 as well.

I actually broke my 2wd th350 so I found a 4wd th350 and I had a 203 I was rebuilding that came from my brothers K5 so I put that in, and put it in loc to drive.
It worked fine for a while with the 31" tires agressive AT, it was mostly for camping and hunting trips. :D
