Pretty bad wreck

I finally fixed my mustang today. I decided to drive it. My dad called our insurance at 5:30 but they closed at 5:00. Well an hour later I T-bone him running through a light by total accident. Airbags deployed and totalled both of our cars. I didn't have a seatbelt on and hit my head against the passanger window. Got two tickets and paid the guy 2000 to replace his ford ranger. Just thankful I'm alive. A car and some money is a small price to pay. Have a pretty bad headache and stiff neck so I am staying up as long as I can before I fall asleep. WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS! If my window was all the way down instead of half cracked, I might have flown out of the car. I would download the pics but seeing my mustang wrecked will make me sick.

Did you leave a message at the insurance co? My dad had the same thing happen a few years back and ins covered it because he left them a message before he went out for a drive. Sucks about your car. Lucky no one got hurt.

Glad you weren't seriously hurt but let this be a lesson to have INSURANCE and to be WEARING your SEATBELT. There have been too many "accidents" lately with people either not having insurance or not wearing their seatbelt.

Glad your ok. Sucks about the car. Can I ask why in the hell didn't you have a seatbelt on?

Better question is WHY did you continue to drive it even though you knew you did not have insurance?

I could see driving without ins. You don't die by not having ins. You die by not having your seatbelt on. That's what I was wondering about.

Every day on the news I see someone or a whole family died because they were not wearing belts. I just don't understand why people don't use them.

Well drunk drivers, and people without insurance usually end up killing others when they get into an accident.

I usually remember my seatbelt about 10 min into the drive. Now I am going to put it on before the car starts. I know the insurance thing was dumb. It was going to be put on in the morning but no excuses:doah: Lessons were definitely learned. I don't even have medical insurance because I just thought if I got sick I could go to the campus and use their little office type deal. God how things are going to change! Now if I was in the blazer, I'd MAYBE have to bend the bumper back a little:haha: But then again the other guy may have gotten hurt which would have been horrific. What do you guys think, the car is pretty close to totaled, but it has been my baby. It's in the pound right now. Should I go save it?

If it's hurt that bad, don't get too attached to it. Even if you get it fixed and looking like it should, sometimes they just never feel quite like they used to. If it's not that bad, then maybe. Since it's uninsured, I'd be worried about frame tweakage. If that unibody is messed up, you'll never get anything to line up correctly, much less drive properly.

Seatbelts: wear 'em. Sounds like you've learned your lesson. I rolled my Tacoma twice at 70 mph into a ditch on the side of the interstate and landed upside down. punched out a window and crawled out with a lot of sore muscles, but otherwise, not a scratch.

Car is most likely totalled. Front crash and airbags are enough to have repair cost > the cars value.

That said, the car is in the tow company's lot. You are being charged for the tow and storage. Get it out, get it home, part it out and make back whatever you can. The engine and manual trans alone are worth a good chunk of change if they are still in running/working order.

Assuming the other driver does not sue you, it sounds like you learned a cheap life lesson.

Seatbelts.

Insurance.

Always look for people running the light at EVERY intersection and look far down the road because they are usually speeding. (My mom taught me this one.)

I am glad to hear you are physically okay. Your health is irreplaceable. Cars, money, that comes and goes and is nothing to worry about.

Personally, I won't drive a wrecked car. It was designed to crumple in a crash, and may not perform as well next time depending on the level of damage it sustained. Again, your health is more important. I'd consider parting it out, unless it was only a tiny amount of damage that you could repair by bolting on new parts.

Get a newer car with side air bags in a while and call it a day!

I feel like I'm naked with no seatbelt. My driver seatbelt in the bronco 2 doesn't work as its stuck inside. I was scared every time I wheeled it.

Sucks dude. You been having some bad luck lately.

Yeah I have. Anyways since I have very little income, is there any insurance company that will give full coverage on maybe an 03 camry or a 86 blazer pretty cheap to me (19). My dad is a vet so I was thinking that veterans insurance:dunno: I am going to have to get a car that I will drive everyday because from now on I am getting insurance. Also maybe joining my grandmas policy would be cheep. I want full coverage if i can afford it...

Full coverage on the Blazer is pointless IMO unless you have one of those 'agreed-upon value' policies. Regular full coverage will pay you next to nothing (book value) for a totalled blazer - and it won't take hardly anything for them to total it.

Liability on the Blaze should be pretty cheap and is the responsible thing to do if you're driving it on public roads.

Generally, for full coverage, I'd say try to find a vehicle that is a little older, but has a good safety rating and is not so large and heavy that it would demolish anything it hit. I'd say an '03 camry is a reasonable candidate.

Ehh.. I don't think I'd bother with full coverage if I were you. Doesn't really much sound like either of your current vehicles is worth it, and at your age and driving record now it will cost you an arm and a leg. Is that Camry really a high $$ value vehicle??

I know Progressive insurance is pretty lenient with who they will accept to insure, so you might just get yourself an online quote if possible. Also, if your rents or family member will put you on their policy you'd stand to save money that way too assuming you'd be paying the family member of course.

You guys shouldn't beat this kid up too bad - don't forget how we were ALL young once and to sit there and point fingers and tell him he's foolish is pointless now, he's ultimately had his punishment now and it sounds like he's learned the lesson. If I had a dime for every time I'd done something exceedingly more stupid than this, I'd be RICH!

I bought the dude a better truck that night and he didn't get hurt. He's not mad or anything and I had him sign a release of liability for the wreck. I buy and sell cars alot so insurance is hard to keep up with so I am getting a gas saver and having insurance on that and the blazer. I think liability will be my choice. Never driving without insurance again.

I'll one up you with a light pole and 8 rolls at 80mph...:haha: Although yours looks worse for wear. Same deal though, walked away with a couple scratches. Seat belt saved my ass. Even with it on I went 1/3 of the way out the window.
