Priming oil pump in motor

I have a tool made from an old distributor. Just primed one in the truck using a Milwaukee 1/2" drill. Plenty of room, had the hood off.

I pre-oiled my small block engine in the engine compartment. It was a tight fit though to get the pre-oiler into the distributor hole, and then get a drill hooked to it. The only draw back to pre-oiling it on the engine stand is having oil in the engine while trying to get the engine into the engine bay. You would have the oil filter on it, and if you tilted the engine too much trying to get it in, you could spill oil all over the place.

You care to explain how you could spill oil? You would have to tip the engine upside down or completely sideways for oil to spill out anywhere.

If you have the oil filter removed from the filter adapter, it could dump oil all over the place through the adapter. When I recently installed my new crate engine, I did it with the trans connected to the engine, and I had to tilt the engine wayyyy back, in order to get the trans up and over the engine cross member, and then down into the trans tunnel.

Maybe you should go back and reread what you wrote. You said "you would have the oil filter on it".
