Problem Fixed, just had to turn up the air pressure and a change of oil

Re: Having issues with a 14bff and getting the axle shaft bolts out

MJ,

You REALLY need to try out an IR composite air gun. If you did I think you'd change your tune.

I don't care what my gun in made from as long as it has power. I've only found one bolt that could beat my IR 2135TI yet.

i use a 2135TI quite a bit too, on 7/8+ bolts. i have found 2 bolts that it wouldnt touch. the first, our 1" impact wouldnt touch it either, had to cut it out. the second took out the impact. that's ok though, stepped on to the Mac truck, handed it to the driver, and he handed out a brand new one. gotta love warrantees /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif i'm probably going to order mine on Friday.

the snap on impact are not the greatest
for the money you could have picked up a top of the line IR, like my IR244 (or is it 241)
they are pimping their plastic fantastic versions as better then mine but they lowered the advertised specs on the metal ones to sell the cheaper to produce plastics

no impact is gonna put out below 80psi, at 120psi the IR's are like an explosive device

hope it works out for you

Blue point sucks...

The composite IR's are ass-kickers though!! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

the only gun in town that i can find that can bust 14 bolt ring gear bolts and dually lugnuts loose is a blue point over at a truck repair shop on edge of town, no one else has anything here that can do what that little blue point has done, it zipped them right out like they were already loose i still cant believe it,

im with blue point so far, badass gun IMO

What do you mean by "explosive device". That it's gonna take it apart or tear it apart, or that it's gonna go "boom"? If it's the first I agree. If it's the second, I don't know what to say except I've never broken an IR and I've always run them unregulated on single stage systems...

Re: Having issues with a 14bff and getting the axle shaft bolts out

14 bolt ring gear bolts are no big deal. I do those by hand with an 18" breaker bar. Lug nuts are a wild card with to many variables to make an honest comparison...but again an 18" breaker bar hasn't failed me yet.

If you ever ge the chance to run a composite IR and a Blue point side by side you'll see.

Re: Having issues with a 14bff and getting the axle shaft bolts out

I meant
pull the trigger and the nut comes off with extremely violent force
if one is used to the cheapo impacts it can be a scary experience
the friend that recommended the 244 to me claimed it was the only 1/2" drive in Cummins BC shop that could remove head bolts on the N series
everyone else needed to use a 3/4"

Re: Having issues with a 14bff and getting the axle shaft bolts out

Nothing wrong with using a 3/4 IMO. I've got this bad ass 1/2" drive because I can't afford a 3/4. Nice thing is, it's light weight. In the future when I do get a 3/4 drive, it will probably be heavy as hell. That way if I don't need all that power I can grab my 3 pound 2135TI and use that. Then the heavy artillery only needs to come out for stuff that is really not wanting to come apart.

I think the 244 and the 2135TI are comparable, but I believe the composite would come out on top if they were compared.

14 ff ring gear bolts are a joke, I've taken them out with the cheapest crappiest 1/2" impact money can buy.

Lug nuts too.

I've taken out 14 FF ring gear bolts w/ my snap-on 18V CORDLESS impact!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: Having issues with a 14bff and getting the axle shaft bolts out

LOL, we did the 14FF ring gear on "Butch" in a hotel parking lot with a 1/2 breaker bar while the carrier was on the ground held only by a pry bar...

I've been wanting one of the 18v Dewalt impacts... how do you like the snap-on one? What kind of battery life do you get?
