I final got the Jimmy in the shop getting the rollcage kit installed. Stopped by after work and peeked through the window... is nice.

The parts pile is growing. I got my guages, new heater and ORD stuff yesterday.

Stuff waiting to get bolted on:
6" Tuffcountry in front
3" in the back
ORD Shakle flip
Greaseable everything
1" ORD body lift
new body mounts
LMC gas tank
B&M shifter

I love having a new parts pile to pick from - it sounds like your time is as spotty as mine is. I can pick the part, consider the amount of aloted "free" time and install. Still waiting for the twin stick time to R/R the transfer case. Two kids and a stay at home wife make that a little tough.

PS awesome Jimmy. Are you going to keep it orange?

It'll be a sad day when I have to lose the Garbage bag seat covers...
 
actual progress

Got the truck back yesterday. We are calling this phase 1. 6pts in on the roll cage, I take it back wednesday for to add more bracing and I tthink I want to move the rear hoop back to the tailgate. Phase 3 we do the harness bar and seat bridge front and back with PRP seats for wife medium kid and little tiny kid.

Mostly I realy like it so far and I think with good comunication with the shop and more forethought I think It'll come out great. Oh, it removeable I'm using some staked cage end I got from Kurt.

Very Nice. I like the design of the bends. My next cage will have the rear loop go back to the tailgate also. More safety for the rear passengers.
 
That's really nice, now unbolt it and send it to Carson City...
 
Stage 1 but better

Alright I had them cut and extend the cage to where we wanted it to bigin with and then add bars on top and along the bed rails. Once the base cage is in masking tape is an amazingly effective device for comunicating wants and needs.

So far I love the cage and when the seats show up next week:laugh: the seat bridge and such will be added and harness and such and then I can pull it out and grind sand and finish... FNA!

LIQUID nAILS

i've had both a tube of liquid nails and that trim piece that goes on the drivers door. I've resisted the urge to use one on the other, is ther a better way or are my instincts correct?
 
You need the right clips to hold the molding on. Originally the ends of the molding had clips with studs that went through the door and were retained with nuts and the middle two clips were plastic with double stick tape. Post pics of what you have and I can tell you or even send what you need. No liquid nails required.


Cage is looking nice BTW.

It's my SW Racecar kit that I bought a year ago... not sure of the size but the local shop put a lot of work into redesigning and bending and basically the kit was a very expensive way to buy tubing...:o

I'll get a picture of the trim piece.
 
Very nice! I like the clearance between the AC vent and the window reg handle.

Hugger Orange is obviously the way to go!
 
More Progress -- or what I did with a week vacation

We gutted and painted the basement, twice...:bow: I didn't like that color either honey. Carpet guy is coming today. Sofa is somewhere between here and Zacatecas...throw a Sony on the wall and thats done.

I got the shop cleaned out, you know you can take 750 pounds of wood chips to the dump for less than $10? and thanks to the scales I know I have 360 pounds of pipe in the roll cage so far without the seat bridge. I should be getting four boxes from PRP today!!!!:laugh: so maybe the cage gets finished this week.:rolleyes:

I also finished up a big donation for Oregon Childrens Charities. 30 platters in figured maple and walnut, so all the equipment gets pushed to the corner and me and my impact wrench can start the suspension maybe Sunday! maybe

Bam!

Die grinder and a big carbide burr made easy work of the dash panel to open up the small holes on the bottom. Roughed it up with some 0000 steel woll and aplied shooshoocan black.

I went mechanical for the oil and water and electric for the rest including speedo.

Am I going to want a voltmeter? I could just throw the clock in a cage pod somewheres...

I think you would want a voltmeter - I sure like to keep an eye on everything, including the electrical charge. Your dash bezel is looking great!
 
That's looking great - I like it! Mostly because it looks exactly like mine.

I would definetly give yourself the voltmeter, you really need to see what's up with your electrical system.

Some issues I have are: 1, the speedo starts to work at 10 MPH, kinda worthless when bouncing, not much you can do about that. 2. Blinkers are in the right spots but have no cover so their blinding when I turn them on. 3. The High Beam indicator is just sitting in the medium sized middle hole and like the blinkers is blinding, unless it falls back behind the dash and I cannot see it. 4. Most irritating is the fact I cannot find a middle size guage that I dont already have in another size and now just have a hole with wires and high beam indicators showing through.
