NEK5
3/4 ton status
Ok, lets start. Quite a few of you already know me, and if you don`t, the name`s Ben. I`ve been wanting to start one of these for a while. I figure its a good way to keep all my stuff in one spot, and many will aggree. So, here goes nothing.
I started out with a 1990 Chevy V10 Blazer I bought off a guy that my friends dad knew well. When I got it, it needed a little TLC. The exhaust was rotted off at the muffler, so I put in a single exit FLOWMASTER system. It also needed some attention to the body, which I ended up neglecting up until this past summer.
Here is pretty much what it looked like when I first got it:
From there, its gone through a few changes. The winch/bumper were traded off to DirtyJim for a set of axles to replace the set I destroyed my first time wheeln.
So now I just have stock bumpers that are black. Over the summer, we fought cancer
(no pun intended
).
After that was done, with much procrastination, I went ahead and herced the floor.
Since I`ve had this, I`ve learned how to do: brakes, replace P/S box and hoses, steering shaft, replace section of cracked fuel line, rebuild and swap axles, install tb spacer and injector spacer, strip various things
, and just general maintenence stuff.
Here are the current specs:
Vehicle: 1990 Chevy V10 Blazer
Motor: Small Block 350 with an induction kit installed (tb spacer, inj. spacer, airclearner riser, k&n filter), she`s getting tired, and she wont stop smokin!
Transmission: 700R4
TC: NP241
Axles: Front - 10b, 3.73s, rebuilt with MOOG ball joints and Precision U Joints.
Rear - 10b, 3.73s w/ Eaton style POSI
Suspension: 4" Explorer procomp, springs in front, blocks out back
Cosmetically, its been through a few changes. Went from having the winch bumper, to painting it black, to going back to stock bumpers painted black with a CUCV grille guard, to now with just black bumpers. I even got bored and put some racing stripes on the hood.
But there are future plans for that...
FAST FORWARD to today.
I`m now on the road to completion of my "ultimate" DD/trail rig. Now, this is all started when I realized I was going to be in the market sooner or later for new tires, and as everyone said, I wanted to go bigger. So, I decided on 35 BFG Muds. Based on that decision, I`ve come to the conclusion that seeing as I`ve already gone through 1 set of 1/2tons with 33s, I didn`t want to be doing it again when I went up to 35"ers. So, the decision was made to go 1 ton, which will consist of D60/14BFF with 4.56s and a Detroit out back. Christmas came around, and I thought to myself, what a perfect time to get some truck parts! So, from my MamaDukes, I got: DIY4X Shackle Flip N Switch w/ 4.5" shackles and greasable bolts...from ORD: new sway bar bushings, and 4 zero rates. Now, of course you can`t go a Christmas without buying yourself some gifts..
So from the beast:
a super built 700r4 w/ extra clutches, hardened sprag, kevlar bands, and corvette servo, deep finned pan with drain plug, and a brand new "K" case (this tranny is practially brand new, I don`t think there`s anything else that could be replaced). Now, agree or disagree, I think this is going to be somewhat of a "bombproof" setup, which is what I`m going for. It`s all about peace of mind!
To begin, tomorrow I will put the sway bar in with brand new bushings. Thanks to my work for approving my time off request, I now have February vaction off from work and school!!!! So, on goes the shackle flip, and hopefully new axles/tires.
Check back periodically for updates as things progress, and feel free to leave a comment!
