Project DieselWarrior ( ++ Updated: 25 Aug 10 w/PART 23 VIDEO ++ )

Cool man, I see that rain I sent up to ya got there huh hahaha, you said it was too hot so i sent ya some of Aucklands finest rain man - enjoy, won't be long now man and you will be on the road dude yeeeehaaaaaar

Yeah, I hope to get the left kick panel finished tomorrow, at the very least. Maybe the right side too.

I checked with LMC website, looks like about $40 in parts and I can have the entire right side rocker panel replaced.

Im also shopping for tires, looks like the Primewell PA100 tire is $100 each in 31's, thats a smoking deal and I can use all *four* of the snow chains I have, since they are for that size tire.

If it snows like it did last year, Im in for a real treat!

Jesus H. Jimminy Cricket, if I had done something as goofus as that Id be too embarrassed to post a pic!

Thats awesome man thanks. I didnt realize how cheap/easy it is to mount and balance your own tires at home i always pay 25 bucks a tire to have that done. When i get my new set ill save the 125 bucks from the shop and just go for these tools :D

Some say... Bubble balancing is crap, the only way to go is electronic balancing with a $2K spin balancer.

Q) How did they balance tires BEFORE these nifty high dollar spin balancers were invented? (answer too obvious to post)

I still to this day remember my grandfather at the service station having his tire balanced on a bubble balancer, it was pretty neat, kinda a magic moment.

If you search forums and net, you will see both pros and cons to both techniques.

I think that bubble balancing tires is a perfectly acceptable method and the quality will be a result of the effort invested.

Once I have the equipment and do my own set, I will know for sure, if my thoughts are solid. Ill post a youtube on the process if I find success, but for now I feel pretty sure Ill do well, its one of those 'tried and true' things.

Dam dude, from 2:25 on the vid you really increased your work rate, but you walk kinda weird though :haha: almost their man, lookin forward to see the rocker panel repair work, keep goin man

Yup... Almost in road worthy condition.

Im on such a budget, Im getting ready to post up on Craigs ISO some used but good shape 31's. That should do me until I get new work, Im out of work right now and trying to get into a CNA class to get back into the medical field. I previously worked in a juvenile detention center as a corrections officer (for laymen's terms), I did that for 7 years and the stresses from it has given me a nice anxiety disorder and PTSS. A lot of these "kids" were not kids, they were 17 year old friggin' convicts that knew they were juvies and nothing much would happen to them, many of them frequent fliers. Some of them were 6 ft and 230lbs, one reason why I always stayed on the weights to get stronger and bigger than they were. (I really feel sorry for the little staff, they get injured at a much greater rate). So anyway, I got too burnt out and just quit while I was out on recovery from my rotator cuff surgery. Now, Im looking for work, and dont have much to finish the truck with, but with determination, she will be done.

I had to get the boss's blessing to get the welder, it was $300 and took us a month to recover from that investment, but it was cheaper to fix her up and keep her than to buy something else.

Anyway, to have her on the road and ready for winter:

1) Finish rocker panel on passenger side
2) Paint interior with some enamel from TSC (IH White)
3) Reinstall seats and seat belts
4) Fabricate and install BOTH new battery mounts
5) Tires that are NOT dry-rotted

Future plans (next summer, I hope):

1) Finish painting the rest of the interior-
Doors, dash and ceiling
2) Patch up doors where some goofus installed speakers with a chain saw
3) Custom built warrior ready roof rack/cargo rack on top (will be bad a$$)
4) Custom built warrior ready bumpers, front and back, with D-Rings :-)
5) Crossover steering mod installed
6) Drop sway bar kit installed
7) Custom built warrior ready center console out of an ammo can and part of a $30 safe from Harbor Freight

GOD ITS GOOD TO HAVE A GOOD WELDER!!!

Also, Im shooting video for part 12, I will most likely have posted tomorrow. I pitched a tarp tent over the truck to work on her during the RAIN, yes dedication runs deep in the South. :-) Its supposed to rain tomorrow so I left the tarp up, the compressor with nibbler is in the shed so I wont have to drag anything out, or do any work, in the rain. :-)

So watch for PART 12 soon!

Great vid! love the time laps. Of course if i were to do time laps on my build you would just see high speed dust accumulating...:doah:

Part 14 is encoding...

I put her in a ditch that would have eaten my S-10 Blazer or XJ Cherokee, seriously. The S-10 with IFS wouldnt have had much of a chance, the Cherokee with limited flex wouldnt have done a lot better, the War Wagon ate the ditch! See on the vid... No, its not really that much of a ditch, but I did have it twisted up where the door jam was AT MY HIP when I had to climb in!

I sealed up the tailgate with bubble wrap until I can order new from LMC, and tomorrow taking it to have the pipes shoot out the SIDE like it is SUPPOSED to, so that should help a lot!

The smoke and rich exhaust might just be an air cleaner, Im going out to check now.

Ive contacted a guy named Fred with Badger Diesel in Salem Wisconsin and he has great prices on rebuilt pumps and injectors, so that will be coming as soon as $$$ allows.

Im not finished yet! Just doing some road trials! :wink1:

Watching them now, Andrew :waytogo:

I really like the way you work, deliberate and confident in your goals. It's coming along great!

Leaving after I get my shower, to get the exhaust out the side, like factory.

From searching last night, 9 out of 10 say straight out the back is bad for exhaust inside the cab.

The bubblewrap seal is working, but its redneck as hell. :doah: Will order seal from LMC later today.

I hope today I can build my dent puller, Ill have video of that too. Then Ill show it in "action". I also want to get the autobody kit from Harbor Freight, the set of dollys and hammers for $25.

Damn, I forgot I need to build new battery boxes.

I thought I was almost done, until I see my list, and theres more that needs to be added to it. :doah:

When you go to harbor freight, check out the next set of dolly and hammers, I think it was $40 couple more hammers and dollies and comes with a nice storage case... Well worth the additional $$$ in my opinion. Seem to be pretty good quality for the average guy doing his own work, I don't think I'll ever have to replace them. Love the progress and the videos, very inspiring to get off my rear and get working on mine!!!
