Project Eat Soot

I was kinda surprised how much the rear axle isn't aligned with fender well. I think I will have to get some Zero-rates to get it lined up again. Do you guys have any thoughts on this issue?

Zero rates are pretty much a must on the rear of these. I had to trim the front of the wheel well too.

Did you get a 2wd steering box? Not to insult if you know this, but the crossover needs a 2wd box.

Ok, I will pickup some Zero-rates then, I thought they would come into play aroung the 8" lift area no big deal will get some ordered up. Yes I did grab a 2wd box, the problem is the sector shafts are a different size and also the pitman arm has splines all the way around and the box has some splines and a notch for the bolt. So don't if I screwed something up or?

Sounds like they sent you the wrong box. 2wd box is splined all the way around and threaded on the end. I think they sent you a 4wd box.

Ok I will give them a call, funny thing is it says on the invoice 1972 blazer 4wd to 2wd....thanks for the help.

People make mistakes sometimes (I've even made one or two:rolleyes:)...but that's my bet. Either way, can't hurt to start there instead of looking for other pitman arms.

Truck is looking GREAT btw:waytogo:

Well I called Redhead Steering and they said there was only one 2wd steering box and that was the correct shaft....and then said maybe I need a 4wd box...ahh no. So maybe I asked for the wrong year of box?...will do some checking.

Hmm, I'd let the other guys chime in, but as far as I know there were only two designs on the steering boxes between years (until the 88-98 body style), and the only real difference is whether it is 0-ring or not. But mine is splined all the way around in 2wd. My 4wd sector shaft was keyed with the cutout for the bolt to go through, so I'm not really sure.

Think they just sent me the 4wd box instead of the 2wd, get that swapped and the steering should be able to be buttoned up.

If you are concerned with adding too much height with the zero-rates, you can build a set of offset spring perches to replace the factory ones. I built a set of spring perches with a 2" offset which seemed to work perfectly to center the rear tire visually.

Thanks -G for the suggestion I will grab a closer look at it this weekend. I hope for the thing to sit level when it's all said and done. Redhead Steering has another box coming in tomorrow it was just boxed incorrectly. I hope to have the steering dialed in over the weekend we'll see. As far as the 12v goes probably do some timing adjustments, fuel pin and try to flow some more fuel. I'm not going to go to wild on that aspect. The plan currently is to get it in and running then add the intercooler later. If I come anything close to what Mosesburb did I will be happy.

Ahhhh i just saw the pics. I didnt realize it was a rotary pump. Still a great engine! More than powerful enough once you make some adjustments

Yes....no P-pump here (I wish) I had one in my back pocket at one time but did not pull the trigger on it after inspecting and finding two cracked pistons. My buddy only wanted $450 for it but I figured it would be too much time out to rebuild. I found the VE pump engine on Craigslist for $900 with only 123k it also came with a 4 gauge pod with all the gauges and pyro probe I couldnt pass it up. I think once the mods are done it should get the "Turd" moving with little soot.

I wouldnt pass that deal up either, It should be plenty of power for now! You could always upgrade to a p pump down the road after your rig is all done anyways. Loooove them P7100's :D

ES,

Get the truck as level as you can with your spring perch and then use the rear shackle length for the last bit of "fine tuning" for height.... Every 1/2" of extra length adds 1/4" of height and it's pretty easy to modify the stock shackle to add some length. Rear shackles are notoriously short anyway, so a longer shackle is a welcome mod.

Great info -G thank you! I guess we'll see what happens when I get the 1100 pound pig mounted between the frame rails and see how it sits.
