Project Eat Soot

sacrilege!
I love the looks of the 1st gen topless. If it wasn't for the skull baking heat around here in the summer I'd run without the soft top cover all the time.

Couldn't agree more dude! I hate the fact I need to put a cage in mine because I like how it looks fully topless so much.

Glad you're making progress on it! You should be ready to go here soon right?

Yes exactly, Going to have him fix a few areas, align gaps and throw on a cowl hood and squirt the same color on it. While it's gone I will go thru the top and repaint it white.

Ill be watching for your top reconditioning.
Mines getting to that point of needing attention also.

Ok gents, I stripped the Blazer down some more this weekend. I'm trailering it down to the body shop tomorrow. I should get it back in 3-4 weeks. The guy painting it only does one at a time so hopefully it goes as planned. It was kind of frustrating taking it apart as far as the upper windshield frame there was quite a bit of rust up there more than I liked to see, but on the right side where the rubber seal screws to the post it only has one hole remaining!:eek1: out of three...good thing it's a driver! Another thing that sucked was the sunviser screws, just get them moving then the screw strips out! Love my K5's but DAMN the rust is horrible and now that I have taken one down this far it's disappointing to see how crappy they were made from the start!..Thanks for listening need to vent! HA! I can't complain too much hell the thing is 5 years older than I am!

I love my blazer, but yeah, a few things you run across can be pretty disheartening. It's a good thing they look so good. :P

Yes they look so damn good it makes up for it! BTW now that the top is off it's kinda growing on me now....may keep it off awhile!

Take it for a drive on a sunny day, and you'll probably never want to put the top back on again!

Reinstalling the hardtop on mine always felt like I was being punished. More noise, more rattles, stuffy as heck and only about 10% of the driving fun......

You'll see.....

Yeah drove it a couple Sunday's ago with the top off and I must admit it was pretty bad ass. I dropped the Blazer off on Tuesday evening, I stopped by Chevy Metal this morning and picked up a cowl hood to drop off with Mark. I was impressed with all the work he did in one day! Should have her back in no time. Trying to decide if I should add trim to it while it's there??? As far as lower trim and tailgate. What you guys think?

sweet! nothing worse than handing your truck off to someone that just won't get working on it.

afa the trim goes, I prefer them without it myself.

I've seen 1st Gens with the lower body trim and have seen both the black and wood grain versions that I really liked! :waytogo: then again, I've seen plenty of debadged and de-trimmed Blazers that have a nice simple look as well.

The trim kits are really expensive, so I guess you have to feel pretty strongly about it to make the commitment. Keep on mind too that of you want trim on there you need to have the body an install it NOW to get the alignment perfect....then pull it all back off before paint so that all the drilled holes get painted properly.

I swung by the body shop today and dropped off some door hinge pins. Here are some more pics of progress. Can't wait to get it back.

They are really getting after it!

.....I like the uh, "decorations" that they have hanging around. :)

Ha! The wall art is classic literally! 80 chicks with big hair with hint of filler dust.... Mark has been great, so nice to find a guy that works on one at a time...no body shop prison! He hoping to shoot the jambs and dash by the end of the week.

Small update today. Stopped by body shop and got some progress pics. Turning out nice so far. He is hoping to shoot the body this week. I may be able to pick it up late next week!

Looking great, ES. You gotta be getting pretty excited, right about now. I know that I sure as hell would be if I ever get/got to that stage. :waytogo:

Thanks...Yeah I'm excited to get it back. Still lots to do, but the hard stuff will be done! I have to finish my transmission tunnel and get that sealed up...then throw on the goodies!....Think I'm going to run with the LED lights all the way around....and finally get some factory bumpers....oh yeah and I need a new wallet!!

New wallet?......

From the looks of it, there should be PLENTY of room in your current one! :)

Maybe he just needs a smaller one.

Like this one. :waytogo:
