Project Fugly

have anymore pics? this is the project i am going to tackle in the next few months, i am really interested to see the finished front end, where there any hangups as far as putting the truck cab on the blazer frame? also where did you buy the smooth durabak from?

I drove it today for the first time in more than two months. I didn't get as much done as I wanted to before I drove it but I had a serious hankering to go drive it. Especially since I've been paying insurance on it since the beginning of April and put only around 250 miles on it total.

The core support will eventually end up blue but I painted it black to keep the rust off until I finish welding brackets on it. The S10 radiator I put in it seems to be more than capable of keeping the motor cool. Even with no shroud and the clutch fan being like 10" away from the radiator. I bought a Derale oil cooler just to be sure though.

Yeah, it certainly does look unique. The mirrors being on the front fenders throws people off a little and they tend to forget about the filled mirror holes, lock holes, and lack of a gutter. They almost look like they belong there. The eliminating of the raised inner wheelwell makes people forget what they normally look like. Then the narrowed/tapered makes people forget that 40s shouldn't fit without trimming. When you start staring at it you notice how far the cab is moved back, the motor is moved back, and the front axle is moved forward. It's weird driving it around... it's like my Dad's Jeep... there is more vehicle in front of you than behind you. Visibility is incredible though.

I don't have any action shots or anything. I was there by myself. I ran up the hill in the background in 2wd. It's about as far as anyone can make it at all. You just plain run out of momentum when it's dry out and the soil is loose. About the only thing that can make it up that hill are snowmobiles. I've known a couple people that have gone down it. Once you start sliding you're pretty much done. I know a bunch of quads have tumbled down it over the years.
 
Good work on the truck man. I should be driving mine in about a week. I'll be sure to post up some pics of it also.....remember we're on the same general idea....
 
Well, today a couple friends and I went to Whealkate again. This time I got video.

here is my friend Jared running up it (435/1356/205) with his warmed up 302 screaming after trying to crawl a ways He made it about as far as anyone normally does and a lot further than my daily driver does.

Here is how far I made it up Whealkate in 4wd. I need another 100hp. I run out of horsepower before I run out of traction. 3rd gear/low range/pedal stuck to the floor. I've never seen anyone make it any further than this:
