I have been reading up in these forums now for awhile and thought that I should start my own build thread of my 85- here it is!

SO far I have built up a 79 chevy with a 6'' lift, dana60 front, 14 bolt rear, rear disks, crossover/hyd assist steering and 38'' boggers. I do love the truck but its time for a new, more bulletproof trail runner.

All I have completed is buying an old shortbox for $300 and strip it right down to the frame and start the installation of the 52s up front and the 63s out back with the DIY shackle reversal with 6'' shackles, B-52 kit with 7.25'' shaclkes and new front spring hangars, Im STILL waiting for my shock inboard kit to come in (its been a couple of months now) but there has been some shipping errors (first DHL couldnt find my address, then they lost my package!!) But Kert & Tracy at DIY have been very helpful in trying to get the mess sorted out, thanks guys!

What my future plans are is to:
-Change from auto to sm465
-install an ORD 203/205 Doubler & clock up the t-case 2''
-1'' body lift with new body mounts
-Rebuild my dana60 & 14 bolt from my 79 with 35 spline outers, yukon shafts (if they are any good? and info would be nice) all new bearings seals, maybe lockers, etc
-All new brake lines
-Shock inboard kit (when it comes in, lol)
-Reinforce my steering box
-rollcage, buckets 5 point harnesses
-Still deciding to use a 454 or 350 (still deciding on that one as well, any opinions welcome. I will rebuild whatever engine I decide to use)
-I will need to rewire the entire truck. Maybe a painless kit
-I would like to Install fuel injection

And thats about all that I can think of right now of course it will take me some time to be able to afford all this stuff and install it but my goal is to have the truck done by this time next year (I hope I can make it!!!)
And finally here are the pictures of my build and old 79

I have learned a Lot from this site as well as building up that 79. Ill try to be as detailed as possible as I go on with the build

Today I basically cleaned out the garage, Did the pedal swap and installed the manual steering column. I replaced it because my auto one diddnt have tilt and I diddnt want the old shifter or linkage on there anymore, then I put the tranny up on an engine stand. I may rebuild it depending on the condition inside and I need to pull out the factory breather, drill and tap the hole and install a fitting with a hose barb on the end. I need to do this becasue the trails that I typically go on have deep mud and water holes and I am running the breather lines inside the cab.

The pedal swap for the hydraulic clutch was actually very easy, I hardly ran into any problems. I pulled out the automatic brake pedal assy (first you have to remove the steering column and put the hyd clutch assy in. I did not even need to meausre out where to drill the holes for the clutch master cylinder! GM was kind enough to put divots on the firewall where the holes had to be! so I drilled the holes and mounted the master cylinder. the only problem I ran into was that the pin on the brake pedal was to large to fit trough the hole on the pushrod, so Simply i pulled out the brake pedal, cut the auto one in half and put that on in, problem solved!

good thread so far. i love your 79, was it a stick also?

Yes It was with a mildly built 350, but its time to retire it becasue it has a bent frame, lots of cracks, the cab is beat to hell (underside) and either my t-case or tranny is starting to go because its got a nasty grinding sound when I let off the throttle, toasted clutch as well as clutch linkage (it was manual linkage, I always had problems with it. thats why im switching over tho hydraulic) and I want a lighter truck.

I live In Alberta, Canada. and I have a friend thats already buying it after I swap out the diffs.

So I have been very slow with progress, I have been enjoying the summer to much. its already starting to get cold out, so back to the garage! lol So far all I have accomplished Is I coated the cab with herculiner and I have a parts truck to pull a fuel injected 350 from as well as 63'' springs. I have some parts on order at the moment and when they come in, ill start wrenching on it!

Hmmm thats what i want to build sometime, a shortbed... id like to see how this is going to turn out

Tom

oh ok, you'll have to let us know how the herculiner holds up. ive been looking to do some kind of spray on liner or roll on liner in my k10 but i don't want something that will last a few years and then have to be scraped up and done over again.
