Project Groot - 89 V1500 Suburban

You did a better job with a hand drill down under there than most! Glad it was an EZ fix.

The springs that are on there are some no-name 4" lift springs with no discernible markings so I'm not sure how I'm going to track down what the right bushings are.

I've found that measuring the bushing OD with a caliper is handy, then you can order by size rather than application. I seem to recall ORD saying there's three sizes, including one odd-ball metric one that's ~1.9" or something strange.

The $15 digital caliper @ Harbor Freight is amazingly handy.

So the old beast has been parked about a year now, had some issues with the fuel pump that I fixed, had some more issues with the wiring for the fuel pump (that I thought I fixed, maybe not can't remember), and the last day I drove her had some major misfires and other bad noises happen during acceleration. She'll idle fine all day and seems to rev up fine in park, but pushing her up over 2000 rpm in gear results in a lot of jerking and otherwise probably harmful noises. Kept under 2000 rpm though and with enough road she'll get up to 45-50mph just fine.

As far as the wandering problem goes (geez it's been forever) the spring bushings were toast. I ended up ordering a new set of superlift 4" lift spring for the front because I REALLY didn't want to deal with tracking down the right bushings for the old ones. I ordered one wrong set that should have been the right size and came back wayyyy too small. But anyways...

Here she is just after I got her: (Since Fotobuket sux and killed all of the previous pictures)

I'll post some more pictures tomorrow since I'm FINALLY getting back after it. Now that the house is done and the wife says I can get some free time back. Anyways, here's what's on the docket:

- 14 Bolt FF that I picked up ages ago that is going to get an Eaton Detroit locker and a disc brake conversion (both of which I also got forever ago)
- New rear shocks (probably Bilstein 5100's to match what went on the front)
- Font 8 lug hubs/brakes from a k20
- Some kick butt 35/12.5/18's with super new rubber I got from a buddy for next to nothing
- and, if I can't figure out the engine problem mentioned above a new(er) 350 (that I was previously building for a different project and have half assembled sitting in the shed) with a FAST EFI kit so I can get rid of a bunch of the old crap and not have to worry about it dying on me on the way home any more.
