Welp, finally made a move on one, this is a picture from the dealer, it really doesnt do it justice and ill upload some more pics in the coming days before and after all the stuff im about to do to it. there is a little bit of rust in the normal places, mainly the fenders which i will be fixing, 125k miles, paid 5k for it.

Nice rig. Check under the carpet in the corners behind the front seats for rust, in front of the seats by the pedal area (body mounts there and like to rust) and back by the tail gate.

Let me scan this huge list i wrote down last night for yah, hehe.

Firstly im just going to start with a bunch of small things because im saving for a wedding atm so money is an issue until this venue is paid for at the end of the month, so starting with redoing the crappy body work someone tried to do with the rust, also going to paint the white spray liner on the bottom, black.

Removing the goofy bug guard/wing (hoping that wont affect mileage).
Painting the front grill black, other than that im just going to be fixing all the small things that are broken like the drivers side door lock, something has come undone in there and the automatic locks are not opening it when i hit the switch but i can hear it moving so im guessing its just come undone.

passenger side headlight is out so i gotta fix that tonight, the gauge lights are very dim so im defiantly going to try and figure that one out ASAP.

Gotta chop off those pipes that are sticking out to the side, i really hate how that looks, so im gonna cut it off right be hide the rear wheel.

And many other small things that will keep me busy for the next month.

Big changes to come will most likely be a lift, and engine upgrades all thought it runs very strong as it sits. i think if i was to buy this from a private sale it would have been a little cheaper, but dealerships always charge more and my credit isnt great atm due to lack of history so im using this as a way to build my credit with payments, i had to haggle with these guys for 5 hours yesterday to get the payments and price down to a realistic size.

At first they wanted 7k for this thing, i was like no, sir.. hehe..

ugh! i didnt think about those places, i looked under it at the dealership and it wasnt to bad at all, only the fenders have taken a rust beating, but lets hope for the best with regard to all of these places you are talking about.

a few updates.

Man, who ever owned this before pretty much half arsed everything they tried to do.. the grill was a mess, flaking all over the place. perhaps father time had a hand in it all though..

so i painted it black today.

Then i pulled the sticky bus driver steering wheel out and replaced it with a seemingly golf cart sized grant steering wheel, this will do until i can buy a nicer one.

Next plans are, fixing the door locks, they are kinda sketchy.
Painting the rockers black, you can see where they painted them white and
did a horrible job i might add. then i might tackle the rust.

I have a crap ton planned for this truck

Today was a day for some paint.

Had to get rid of the horrible white crap someone put on.

Sanded

Taped off

3 coats of primer and flat black 2 coats of clear.

Lastly, got the stereo installed. (finished just in time, it got dark..)

anyways i think it turned out allright, a 100 times better than what it was before, im thinking that after i fix the rust on the fenders i will have it painted professionally from the crease down, or just have it all done black.

Looks like a solid rig for sure. Like what you've done so far. Painting the bottom really makes the truck look sharp

In regards to mileage, I hope you didn't buy this for good mileage...and I think looks overide mileage concerns anyway.

If you cut off your pipes too far under the body, be prepared for fumes to fill the cab up when you are going slow on the trail or sitting at stop lights. I cut mine off just above the rear axle when I did my shackle flip and it would make a guy dizzy sitting at idle too long after that.

Depending on your lift and choice of tire size, be prepared to get out some type of cutting device to remove the daggers that they call fenders, you may tear up some tires with those. They may even hit now if you go flex the thing.

Anyway, welcome to the club .

Yep, im opting for just routing the pipes out the sides because of the smell issue.

a few concerns iv been thinking about.

This silly hood will not stay flush, i cant figure out why its doing this.
you can push it down flush but it just comes back up..

Perhaps its this hose? its very hard to tell..

Anyone else have trouble getting their cd player to sit flush?

And lastly... the only dmg i can find on this truck so far.
Im pretty sure this isnt supposed to look like that..

For the hood, you could try screwing in the little bumpstops on each corner of the hood bolted to the core support a bit and see if that helps. I couldnt get my cd player to sit flush for the life of me, so I gave up. The dash lights, what I did was remove the cluster, take the clear plastic cover off of it, and remove all the gauges, then everything that was white or blue "dont remember anymore" in the gauge cluster shell I spray painted chrome, I also did this to the taillights and it makes a world of difference. And that picture of the steering shaft is normal, its called a rag joint, and its crap. A jeep Cherokee steering shaft will fix it right up and make the steering much crisper, I believe a 86-96ish one, I have yet to do it but recently rode in one, much nicer, dirt cheap too.

I agree that the little rubber bumpers may be the issue with your hood...but you may want to look into the positioning of your coolant hose too. If it is rubbing the hood, you will have a sweet smelling mess when it does finally rub through. If it's rubbing then someone put on the wrong hose or installed it wrong.

Also, not sure if it was the picture or what, but the cap on your brake fluid reservoir looks like the front corner is not snapped on completely.
