Hey guys, I been trolling(is that the correct term?)for quite a while now. I've seen a bunch of badass rigs built and have gotten a lot of ideas. I've always wanted a K5 since I was a kid, when my dad had his Bronco.

I found a 79 Jimmy on craigslist for $1,000. I just so happened to have enough money burning a whole in my pocket. Called the guy and told him I'm on the way. We got there around 5 or 6 p.m. (its only about a 45 minute drive.). By the time we got there the guy had the motor pulled out and the trans. and stuff secured so it wouldnt fall out. So, i give him the money and we start heading back home. We stop at the truckstop before we get on the road just to check everything. We're pulling it with a towbar and a 97 F350. Everything checks out good so we get on our way.

Well, to make a long story short, we dont get home till midnight and couldnt go faster than 40. Get off work at 11 the next day. As soon as i get home i check it out real good. Other than the whole body having bedliner all over it, really isnt that bad.

Put it on jackstands and pull the front end apart(the very loose/wobbly front end). The R&P look fine and the oil looked pretty clean. Wheel bearings and ball joints were a different story. Im pretty sure that explains why it didnt wanna tow for ****. Well that and the fact it didnt have a motor, shocks, and 15" wide ground hawgs.

Apparently I haven't loaded my other pics. I pulled the body off so i can box the frame. This weekend I'll probly pull the axles off and make sure the frame is square before i box it. Im also putting 52's in the front and am about to order some new frame shackle hangers for DIY4X. I've got a few questions about some bracing I wanna do, but I've gotta figure out where they moved microsoft paint to.

The black is the frame. The red are 2x4 square tubing(pretty thick & free) the blue is the crossmember and the yellow is pipe. what i plan on doing is using the very front square tubing to mount the front spring hangers to and maybe the baack ones in the rear.

What are some good build threads you guys would recommend to look at as far as an all around streetable big block type blazer.

Ive decided to put 52's up front and 63's in the back. Im making my own shackle flip for the back and front spring hangers for the front. Any suggestions to make everything a little easier

How streetable are you talking? A set of 52" front springs is quasi streetable.

And I think a set of 52s is perfectly streetable.

It's definitely softer but I do not think the body roll is excessive.

Best to find someone semi local and go ride or drive a truck with 52s.

I don't know how much cash you have but a set of custom springs from ORD is what I would do if I had the money

Streetable as in drive it to places every now and then when i decide to "go out" which is about 10 miles or so from the house. My inagural run is Galveston by the spring time. Ill see before then if i drive it there or unload it before I get on the ferry and say I drove it all the way. Im getting custom springs in the future when I find me a 60. I figured since im boxing the frame and replacing the frame hangers that I would just go ahead and do the 52 swap.

Got my new service truck today. Brand new F550. Gonna put the welding machine on it tomorrow. So, that means i get to start cutting and welding on my frame. Hopefully the weather holds out long enough so I can at least get all my tools and stuff swapped over.

Looks like a good place to start building. Got any more pictures?

52's can be very streetable.

First problem ya run into when discussing 52's online is they are referred to as 52's only, when that describes only one dimension of the spring. I know there is at least 10 different 52's produced over they years. Some of them are incredibly light duty and would allow a lot of body roll. Others, just the opposite.

The key is picking a set that will work with your rig. Big block, diesel, winch and heavy winch bumper or.... Well you get the idea.

On top of that there are a lot of things in the suspension that can make a good spring selection not work very good.

At any rate, good luck with the build. Keep postin' them pics!

After 10 long, hard, hot & cold, many, many, busted knuckles, cuts, burns, knots in the head, and even a few stitches here and there. I finally got a brand new service truck. Swapped all my stuff from my old one to the new one. Didnt realize I had so much stuff.

Went to the shop and mounted the welding machine and picked up some full bottles. Got back home and got everything ready and tried to hurry and at least get started on the rear(before the rain) since i haven't received my parts from DIY4X yet.

I plan on getting up early and start on boxing the frame up to a little bit before the front spring shackle hangers. Then maybe, when my parts come in, I can have the frame boxed before I go huntin Wednesday.

How do i add a picture and put a description above or below it and post another pic and description, and another, and another, and so on.:pimp:

Upload photos, then when you are putting your post together. Go to manage attachments, then you will see your image codes, click on the one you want and bingo. Hit "enter" a couple times, add more text or photos. You will figure it out.

Didn't get a whole lot done today. It rained last night, so it was muddy. After the first of the year Ill have a 12x24 workshop and a 10x10x12 covered area to work under.

When i get back after Thanksgiving im gonna buy some 3/4 inch sheets of plywood and set the fram up on there so i can get it "level".

Next time i box a frame Im just gonna order the kit from DIY4X. This is more of a pain in the ass than i thought. When i cut out the 2nd piece it was way too big and backwards. The 2nd time i cut it, I still made it backwards but only the back part of it. So i just cut the top off and made a template and cut out the part i screwed up.

Where I stopped at, im gonna put another cross brace like the one in the back. I just have to acquire so more. Not really gonna do a whole lot during the week. Maybe do the other side and make templates (again) and cut out the front pieces.

Not very much luck last week in the woods but did manage to not come home empty handed.

Anyone here in Louisiana?

Weathers gonna be nice this week. Gonna aquire some more 2x4's and maybe some pipe and hopefull finish box and bracing my frame. At least up to where the new spring hangers and stuff are gonna go.:whistle:

Haven't really been doing much with being super busy at work and all. The weather has been pretty nice so far today so i took advantege and got the frame almost all the way boxed in. So far I've done everything by myself with no help from that people that said they were gonna come over and help.

I'm gonna take the torch and cut the top off of that crappy looking crap on the left side. It was the first one i did and I kinda needed to practice welding and thats where i did it.

I'm gonna take the axles off and flip the frame over and finish welding and and flip it back over and get it ready for the 52 swap. Hopefully by next weekend I can put the body back on so I can get the motor and stuff in it.
