Project Penny - All good things must come to an end

Also, keep in mind that despite the sloppy steering and poor suspension handling this truck did drive 130 kph in a straight line before I wrecked the diff at KOH. It had all the same outers on it at the time. The wonky steering was noticeable after I got home with it but I attributed it to being an issue with the axle tube being loose. Since then the changes include switching to the double ended ram assist vs the single ended ram on the high steer tie rod and the 3 link suspension. If the suspension is not introducing roll steer, and the high steer tied rod does not improve things then it must be an alignment issue caused by the damage dealt to the diff.

Yes that's what I was just going to say. When I saw your truck on the street that one day that Andrew moved it. I immediately said that the tires are walleyed. That's obvious to me. Just by looking at it. And by your described contact patches it sound like it's still the same.

So, it would appear that my differential is still suffering from bent axle tubes. Yup, the axle got trussed while the tubes were still bent =/

Diff is coming back out on Friday and going to yet another shop to get them fixed properly. Bear Trax 4x4 Outfitters and Racing is coming to the rescue, I was about ready to hang the for sale sign today when I figured out why the camber was still way out of spec after the front diff was repaired =( I spent wayyyy to much money on the front diff repairs and suspension swap as it was, forget getting it back with the front diff having been trussed while still bent.

I took a bunch of pictures for ya'll to oogle, but I'll post em tomorrow night after work. I just got home after a 300 mile drive and I'm ready for bed.

Their shop is like 1000 miles away from where I live. I sent them a message yesterday and I did recieve a reply but they are not exactly leaping to the opportunity to repair it or refund =/

I'm not going to say anything negative just yet but I have a plan on the go to get it properly repaired this coming weekend. I don't have high hopes that they will do much for me aside from an apology. Their claim is that they checked the camber angles before and after installation. I can't dispute that aside from the fact that my truck most certainly still suffers camber issues. Ya'll be able to see it when I post pics up tonight after work.

I know they aren't gonna leap to give you money back. They did do a lot of work, that looks like it turned out nice.

But I'd be lighting up phone and email and chatting for if I spent that kinda money...

95 Tahoe - Project Penny - Diff is still bent. Pics coming tomorrow!

You see why I was floored that you didn't road test it before you loaded it on the trailer. I don't give a **** about plates and papers, a burn around the block would have lead to some immediate on the spot face to face questions and answers.

And round three...

Other than the whole bent axle tube thing, I am fairly pleased with what I see. I have most of the numbers in the 3 link calculator but I forgot to get the panhard info and need to re-measure the link distances from the axles.

I will be replacing the sway bar links, btw

And yes, a road test may have been a good idea, but I probably still would not have questioned it knowing that the alignment had not been completed ahead of time. I knew the toe was way out to lunch already. I did not, however, immediately notice the camber issues.

How far off is the camber? Is it something spindle shims could fix? Or do they make adjustable kingpin stuff for that like they do ball joints? Thats alot of bracketry and stuff to be reworked if you get a new axle, or try and get that one fixed. Which would suck to cut all that truss off...
