Project Polar Bear: '89 V2500 Suburban

Damn Larry! I almost had a coronary reading that first sentence! DON'T DO THAT TO ME! For a minute I thought you went all soft and wussified on us!

:haha:

Hehe, the funny thing this is I have actually read some really nice build threads on Expo where a person spends a ton of money and time building something then ditches the vehicle at a loss after a simple set back. I wouldn't get rid of the Burb. Heck, we'll prolly still have the '68, '78, and '89 long after this hoe is used up and gone.

Yeah I've seen that too often and it's like... why?:dunno:

Getting rid of a rig after you've built it up is like stopping 2 yards short of the goal line in a football game and saying, "oh screw it, I give up because it's just too hard". :dunno:

My 4 year old told me the other day that I am not allowed to get rid of "her suburban" because she likes it too much. Besides, I've got too much to do to make it truly mine anyway. I can't give up on her just yet.

That would be called burnout. Too much time working and not enough time enjoying. Makes it easy to dump it off

I ahve got a ton of work to do to mine and not much of driving it but I also enjoy the fab work almost more then driving it so...

I trust you guys realize that was a joke. I didn’t get rid of my Burb! Just added a new rig to the fleet for the wife.

On the same page with you too. I knew it was a joke.

The way I look at it, as long as a project vehicle still has metal on it somewhere, it's got potential and it can be driven again.

Same thing I feel like on my burb. Just found a ton of rust on my body and instead of getting a new truck (which everyone is telling me to do) I looked up a couple junkyards in my area and found a new suburban body that I can just put in place of the old one. I would never sell my suburban because of all the work and time I have spent on it. I have probably put 3000 miles on it since I got it 4 years ago but it won't stop me from working on it and keeping it for a long time to come.

Okay, got some major 4x4 capability mods done today, I added a set of Vent Shades. :haha: I have these on the K10 as well and love them as with the window cracked a bit they allow fresh air in but keep all the wind and noise out. They also help quiet down the vent wing noise the square body style rigs are famous for.

Also been busy pimping leftover parts on CL to continue fueling the project budget. Yesterday the old tires and wheels from the Polar Bear went to new home, which was perfect timing as I just ordered all of the parts for the NV4500 swap. Looks like the NV4500 swap will happen during the Christmas and New Year’s break.

My wife got a new camera so lookout, I’ll probably be a bigger picture wh0re than I was before. :haha:

This is Pikes Peak from next to the garage on super zoom. Too neat not to share although it would have been better if there were Antelope roaming around out there as they usually are.

Awesome capability mod!:woot:

So with that style of vent visor how far can you open the wing windows? I have been wanting to do the same thing but I still like using my wing windows.

I don’t know actually. I am so used to this body style truck having goofed up vent wing latches where every time you use them the latch falls apart in your hand that I never use the wings. It looks like they would open all the way like usual though.

So... what your saying is you've never had the balls to open one of your wing windows?:haha::haha::haha:

I actually know exactly what you are talking about.

(peer pressure)
COME ON DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!:saweet:

I like those vent visors too, very handy on a hot day, you can park with the windows cracked open a bit and no one will know.

I had them on mine. The vent windows opened all the way just fine. Both eventually cracked and broke off. One fell off on the dunes. No idea how old they were as they were on and already cracked when I bought my rig.
