Project Polar Bear: '89 V2500 Suburban

Got the burb sitting level again. Summit quickly exchanged the 01-235-6 springs (which were supposed to be 6”) with 01-234-6 which are supposed to be 4”. The odd thing is the K10 has 01-235-6 and it actually sits a tad lower than the burb with a 4”. The burb sitting level with a 4” makes since being the rear ORD shackle flip was a 4”. Just odd the K10 is so low for a 6”. Whatever the hell, I am just glad the burb rides better and took out the oddball wondering issue I’ve been chasing since I put the hand me down lift springs on a few years ago. Not sure what the deal was with those old springs but the truck was all over the damn road and rode like a tank. Next project is to deal with the driveline vibration at 75 MPH.

These are the 01-235-6 Superlift springs on the K10 that were made in India. The guy at Superlift said they changed suppliers where their old 6” was pretty short while the new American sourced 6” springs sit pretty tall. Ya, more like an 8” lift while their old ones were more like 4"! The new America sourced springs I just put on the Burb look nicer quality though with nice straps around the springs!

Interesting. I wonder if that's my wondering issue in my burb is the unknown stock front Springs I have in it.

Rear flip? Probably a rear pinion angle issue, either a angle shim or a angled zero rate block would work great. I'd bet about 4 to 6 degrees will do ya'.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I have a 4 degree steel wedge (bolt in type) and new spring pins. Going to install that when I get some time. I already dropped the x member down .25 which helped, just not enough. Taking the bear camping this weekend with the family so it will be a good shake down run. no wheeling though, all pavement

Larry, I'd be interesting in hearing how those springs ride after everything settles in good.:waytogo:

Your rigs make me want to go out and pimp slap mine....

Oh, yeah! She rides much better with the new Superlift softride springs. It is like night and day difference between these springs and the old ones. The new springs also corrected the wondering issue I’ve been chasing forever although now I have some noticeable bump steer if you go into a dip hard enough but is tolerable and to be expected with a lifted SFA truck. The old springs were so damn stiff they probably didn’t deflect enough to move the steering arm to cause any bump steer. LOL

Haven’t had time to mess with the rear driveline angles to address the vibration at 75 MPH as I’ve been busy on my buddy’s K5 5.3L swap. Got the radiator out of my suburban again though. If you all recall, I played hell getting a Spectra Premium CU774 radiator shipped to me in usable shape. The first two showed up totally demolished and the third was damaged but usable after I replaced the petcock. Well, a few months later this radiator started leaking right in the middle of the core. I said screw it and just have a local radiator shop fixing it rather than deal with another warranty with the risk of receiving yet another smashed up radiator via UPS or FedEx. The fix is only $65 so no biggie. The BS never ends with this damn truck. On top of that I think the NV4500 is dying as it won't go into 3rd or 5th gear once it gets warm. I just had $300 worth of syncros put in it during the engine swap and it is no better now than it was before. In fact it is worse. :angry1:. I'm so sick of the yearly NV4500 rebuilds on this and the K10 I'm seriously considering a 4L80E for the Polar Bear.
