Project Smoke Wagon

1984 GMC Jimmy 383 Stroker | SM466
The docket today:

Clean the vinyl floor I took out [ ]
Install the transfer case [ ]
Install steering column [ ]

Which transfercase bolt hole does the short bolt go into on the 208? I didn’t realize there was one bolt short than the rest. I think it came out at the 10 o’clock position staring at the vehicles nose.

Just checked each hole with a probe and the “flange” in every hole is the same depth.

I think putting it at the 6 o clock position for adapter clearance makes the most sense.

Done yet??

That's all I got, cuz you are already rolling along.

:waytogo:
Yeah the new TC al the bolts were the same length. So just went with that. I got everything together.

XJ steering shaft, column, cluster in [x]
Tcase in [x]
Exhaust back in its hangers [x]
Rear drive shaft back in [x]
Cleaned the vinyl flooring [x]

just want to rebuild the front drive shaft before I install it. Plumb up this wiring for the 4 speed I’m trying to figure out and start on the interior.

Can’t for the life of me remember where this plug goes it’s possible it was left out before and that’s why I can’t remember haha

Well it turns over and I have all my lights (besides reverse) so I am thinking these were not used.

Test drive was successful. Man I love a manual trans! It does need a bit of adjustment. It’s real touchy. You let it out even a 1/2” and it engages. Next up I’m getting everything bolted in and the exhaust redone.

Playing hooky from work. Got the clutch all adjusted. Just needing to throw the passenger seat and center console in. I think that plug I showed a picture of earlier is tied to my heater somehow as my heater isn’t working now. So gunna take the dash apart and get that situated. Putting a new power steering pump in and taking her by the exhaust shop for a quote.

$600 for flowmaster 40’s header back. Seems kinda steep. Might buy the muffs and have them do the exhaust later. Remind me that power steering pump pulleys are d**ks. Got it all together but without an impact that was really lame.

Seat bolts that were in it when I got it next to seat bolts I put in it. I feel much better now. Haha

Successful day. Very happy with the out come. Can’t wait for some new exhaust. small wiring jobs need done.

Thinking of running all the wiring in metal bendable conduit. Thought it would clean up the wiring good. It would just be a real pain to have to redo anything haha

Need to get the CD player wired back up with some better speakers I have laying around. Looking into a CB set up as well.

got the shop cleaned up and ready for the up coming projects.

The steering is WAY tighter with the XJ steering shaft. I thought it was great before. It’s even better now. The turning radius on this is just insane compared to my Tacoma. It took all of the play out of the wheel, which got hairy a couple times because I am so used to the slop.
