Project Truggy progress thread

There going on as I type basically. Finished my pinion conversions last weekend and finished two of the 8 lug disc adapters today. I'll finish the other two after work this week and start swinging them under the truck next weekend.

The horseshoe braces are the best bang for the buck on the 404's.

Welcome to hell.... :wink1:

Might as well start over on that cage work, or plan on driving something a LOT taller than what you have now. Mog axles are cool, but almost every truck I've seen with them sat pretty high.

If you're willing to ditch the factory frame, and move the motor back several inches it should all work out fine. :D

MSI Portal boxes are the shiznit if you want to solve the weak portal problem permanently....but say goodbye to your checkbook. Bearing sets are scary-expensive too. The funny thing about Mog axles is that you can get them for cheap ($1500/set with lockers!) so it's seductive....but by the time you add the brake conversions, pinion conversions, CNC Portals, CTIS and come up with a workable steering setup you will have probably burned through almost $10,000!!!!

Homemade. Made the brake adapters out of 6061-t6 and made the pinion conversions from 8620 gear steel...

well i'm probably not going to go disks, kinda dont have a reason to right now. Pinion conversion is 450.00 for the pair. For some reason I don't think i'll break the portals, i like to drive hard but i know when to call it quits as willyswanter knows from blazerfest. I don't need cnc portals either thought i have seen them and they look sweet :-) I am going to drop the suspension back to stock height (it's 2.5" lift right now) and most of my lift comes fro ma body lift which might come out before i burn in all the welds for the exo cage to the frame. It's only pinned on there in four spots right now. Not sure yet though. I will find a way, I always do :-) It's ok for it to be a little higher though.

BB,

What are your plans for a wheel/tire combo?

Those Mog drums are massive, and IIRC the Mogs normally use something like a 20" wheel to clear them.... goin' with some sort of dubs? :wink1:

No dubs for me i think I can run a 17"

Over the drums? I'll be curious to see that.... I put one of my 16.5's up near the drum and it didn't look like it was anywhere close to fitting... :dunno:

Then again, it's been a long time since I did much with my Mogs....they do a great job of holding my garage floor down though.

i found someone who is laser cutting the brake caliper brackets for me for a very special prices so i'll be running chevy disk brakes :-) which means i can actualyl stick to my 15's...yay!

It may be a long shot but the late model Dodge rams that come with the 20" wheels have a fullsize spare mounted on a 20" steel wheel.

I believe they are 6-lug and if they just happen to be the same bolt pattern as your mogs, just have some steel beadlock rings made and your set

dodges are 5 lug and mogs are a weird bolt pattern...

yeah i think the mog's have a large 6 lug pattern. USA 6x6 can hook me up with beadlocks for them for 150 a wheel, that's not bad!

the guy who is making the brake caliper just told me how to convert it to vehvy a lug pattern too with the stock parts...p.i.m.p.!!!! He's doing a build with them as well.

of course whe ni get the aprts and do some work i will be posting lots of pictures and tell ya'll how i'm doing it, but you'll ahve to wait and see :-D
