Propane..?.............another q , post #23

OK, the last post brings up a good question...

Who's running propane on a trailered rig???

I do...

That may explain the reason people run out... There's more than enough onboard with my two 8 gal tanks for any day of wheeling... And there's more tanks back at camp for the next day or a long weekend...

For everyone with propane instead of a vac lock off what about a 12v one, for low vac..?

I have a chance to get a model x-450a and a model x-1, This is a whole older got propane kit with all the hoses, bulkhead, selonoid, filter, tanks and tank straps for cheap.......Was this or is this a good kit...?

How many important things on your truck do you trust to a 12V source? Lots of stuff, starter, ignition, fans maybe, lots of stuff.

Do a good job of wiring and it will be fine.

As for the kit, it sounds good, depends on what cheap is but I say go for it :thumb:

If the kit is in working order and you can get it for cheap, jump on it... Propane is stupid simple...

I'm running a vacuum lock off, but I have a 12v one in the tool box... Haven't tried it yet... Thought about installing it to see how it works then hook the vac back up and leave the 12v in without the lines as a back up... I've got another Model E that I was thinking about rebuilding as a back up and carrying it on board as well...

[brief hijack]

I've been thinking about converting to propane, but it is $3.82/gal here in Knoxville at the U-Haul stations as a motor fuel (gasoline is slightly more than a dollar cheaper). If I stand to lose some mpg's this looks expensive. Is that about what you all pay or am I looking at the wrong places for cost data?

U-haul is a terrible place to get propane, find a gas station that has propane.

Google can help you find fill stations near you as well

2.98 a gallon here if i take them to the local station....There are 2 sizes of forklift tanks, a large and a lil smaller. how much do they hold...10 and 8..?

Yep, 10 and 8...

I run two 8 gal tanks, the 10s are a little taller and won't fit were I have mine mounted...

Propane is running about $2.99 here... It's a little cheaper than gas, but I'm not running it based on price...

Price im not after either, how do you guys like it..? Im wondering is the 450 ohg with the x-1 going to be enuff.

Supposed to push a little more than the impco 425 from what im reading . I was told also that its worse on fuel, that because of the timing cranked..? I should have this in a few weeks, id like to put 2 the 2 ten gallon tanks in the bed and hook em both up. Ever do that..?

A buddy has two 10s hooked up... As long as you don't have both open at the same time you'll be good to go...

I have two 8s mounted and just unhook from one and hook it up to the other when it runs out... Only takes a couple of minutes... Just like hooking up a tank to your BBQ grill...

Here's mine mounted...
