propane power

No oil in the gas?
Are you saying that gas would have some kind of lubricating factor that propane would not have?

I believe a 'smart feller' would have a BBQ tank stashed somewhere for a reserve.:D

That would be the benifit of running a dual fuel setup. I just took my one ton on a trip to Portland towing my 32 foot gooseneck with my brothers Toyota on the back. I got about the same fuel mileage with both and it ran great with no problem other then kicking off the belts at about 90 miles an hour. The propane smell really isn't all that bad makes good conversation at the pumps. I spent about $500 and went 1400 miles or so Portland and back in three days. I think the only problem with my setup is that the dual fuel restricts the air flow when its run on gas so at full throttle under load it will run so rich that it will stall or just loss power till it stalls. However I have yet to remove the aircleaner to look and see what it all really does.

LPG as a gas passing the valve has zero lubricity, gasoline does have added chemicals for lubrication. To combat the grinder like action of the valve and higher combustion temperature, a propane head would have stellite valves and hardened seats installed.

And about the only drawback to trail usage that I've ever seen is running out.
