This doesn't sound right to me. On the dozens of systems I have seen, you still have an air intake passage through a filter. In fact the carb like part of the system is called a mixer and is where air is added to the propane through the filter. Of coarse it also serves the purpose of metering the amount of fuel to dump.

the only systems I've seen, the propane was everything, the system was completely closed. Check the Pirate tech article about propane, they list a high point as no need for a snorkel cause no air intake.

I have never seen a 'closed system'
LPG is a fuel

if you get a cardlock account at the 2 major suppliers here you should be set as far as availability
they give you a list of every outlet, also available online
I dont have my cards yet so I have been hitting the fullserve gas stations
I dont have the fuel guages hooked up yet so I am running one tank dry and switching to the other

the way I hard piped my reg and lockoff to the mixer I found that a low profile aircleaner base flipped upsidedown works perfectly

I used Aeroquip 1053 line and steel SAE 45* fittings
1053 is very common, used in semi brake lines sometimes

dual planes also get a better vacuum signal to the carb circuits
I agree a single plane would be a good idea, if I fall on a used Victor Jr I am going to try it
also the added runner volume would help as the gasseous propane is taking volume that would be air in a gasoline engine
there is one company here claiming to have propane cams
I bet the Australians are the ones to ask about LPG specific cams as they are big consumers of 'straight gas' as opposed to 'Petrol' IIRC

If you read the titles for the pictures on the left of the text he says:
"Here is the air/fuel mixer (caburetor) and air cleaner assembly. Notice the large hose going into the top of the air cleaner. This is the actual fuel line into the carburetor."

I read the 'Pro's' and noticed no mention of snorkles, etc. He does state "closed system." This means that there is no return line to the fuel vessel.

yeah its been a while since I read it completely. I don't see where the air intake is though, does the mixer have an intake on it?

He is using a closed element air cleaner and I don't see the intake either. On my buddy's system and mine, we are using open element since we see very little water/mud.

BTW huge tanks aside, my biggest peeve about propane = the price. About 15-20 years ago, the BC gov't was giving out grants to people converting their vehicles. Now the prices are just stupid (up here at least) Go figure. 3 years ago I was paying $0.18-$0.34CAD/L and now the prices are almost triple at $0.65/L. And for what? Propane is a friggin byproduct!!!! They should be practially giving the stuff away!!!!

I somewhat have to disagree with you. You are correct about propane being a by-product and that in itself lies the problem. Back in the late 70's IIRC everyone was converting to propane because gas prices became so high. That created a shortage of both very quickly so the price had to increase to level out the usage. That's how it remains today. Same goes for diesel fuel. Its a helluva lot cheaper to make due to less refining but if the cost reflected that, everyone would run it and then the shortages would start.

This is mainly my view of the situation and not based on total facts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

up to 7 cents cheaper at the card or key locks
in BC
granted I wish it was cheaper but it is steady at least
