i'm not too sure about the size of the opening on that homebuilt shroud, yeah i realize it's going to pull all the air through there, but what's it gonna do at highway speeds, seems like it's be a serious restriction in airflow to me.
Well, crap. I guess I will head to the pick n pull. I saw about ten of those fans. I even know where one is stashed in the back of a another van. Thanks.

personally i would run two fans side by side rather than block up the whole radiator like that with one, i know the factory shroud somewhat does this, but the opening around the belt driven fan is also much larger too.
I have run two fans in the past with good results as well.

No offense taken. I make that 12+ yrs ago. I never installed it because I did'nt know how it would work. I was workin at a body shop, and the parts were just sittin there. I was bored so I made it. I want those Windstar fans anyway. They look sweet, and I hate stickin my hands and face next to the stock fan while the engine is runnin. I have no shroud now. Thanks for your advice.
I am getting my new motor this week. Can I pull the motor by myself? I have pulled everything off. And its ready to be pulled out.

I don't see why you couldn't pull the motor yourself. I pulled the 460 out of my old 86 F-250 about 5 years ago by myself. It isn't all that hard to do. Just remember to take your time!!! Hidden bolts and wires can still be attached and before you know it, your trying to force the engine out and you end up breaking something.
You can pull it by yourself, as long as you use a hoist or cherry picker or weight lifting device. I wouldn't try to lift it out by hand.
Really, if you have everything removed from the engine, you should be able to handle it yourself. Did you mark where your hood hinge's are in relation to the hood? Make sure to support the transmission from underneath while removing the engine. Then use a 2x4 or something to support the trans bellhousing (with a couple bolts through the bolt holes to the block), after you get the engine out.

Well almost have the motor out. I will finish pulling the motor after work today. This is a complete PITA. The burb was too tall for the cherry picker. So off came the wheels. The bolts connecting the motor to the tranny are a pain. Thank god for the body lift. It makes it a little easier.

It's probably a little too late now, but one thing you could've done to make it easier on yourself, (or maybe not), is to remove the core support so you don't have to lift the engine up and over it. The engine just needs to be high enough to clear the crossmembers.
I've started doing it that way too, its just about 10 minutes extra time that saves a bunch of headache getting the motor in and out.
thats how i did mine over last weekend. was able to get it out with the hood intact.
just fyi. there's like 800 little bolts holding that thing together. it longer getting the front end off then it did getting the damn engine out. lol
but i was fighting thru 35 years of rust, mud & oil.
From the looks of it he's still going to have to remove the core support.

If I takke the core support out, How will the fenders stay on? I know there are a couple bolts holding the rear of the fenders on, but wont it sag, or bend.
When i painted it 12 yrs ago, I guess I didnt put that many bolts back in the core support. There are only 6 I think.
The picker goes a lot higher. I wish I had the money to have somebody do this for me. What a pain. Fun, but a pain.

just find a buddy that has one and bribe im witha 12 pack of long necks. thats how i got my flywheel tool rental, and a guy with skinny hands to do the top bellhousing bolts.

Looks like you're doing a good job for someone who hasn't done this before. If you can find someone to help you put it back in, it makes aligning everything easier. Take your time.
Thanks. It has been kinda fun. I went to Kragen auto parts. They are selling off all their tools and switching brands, from Powerbuilt to something else. 1/2 off all tools. I picked up a bag of tools for 14 dollars. Flywheel turning tool for 6 dollars. I'm going to take off the core support now and pull the motor when it starts cooling off this evening. Almost 100 degrees today and no shade. Thanks guys.
