So I installed a grant wheel since the stocker was trashed. Now it binds every say15 degrees of rotation for about 1 degree. Could this be that I over tightened the nut in the middle? What is the proper torque on that nut? It was fine before I changed the wheel. Also pressing the blinker down is fine but pulling it up into the right blinker position its fairly stiff. I guess that there could be something a matter there too.

Yes i got the proper adapter when I bought the wheel. Thats what I was thinking at first but i checked it against the website again and its correct. I dont want the wheel to fall off so im not sure how loose i can go on the wheel.

you can't overtighten the steering wheel nut, it's a tapered spline fit..

how far apart did you take it? did you remove the snapring and lockplate? btw, the turn signal stalk is attached to the blinker assembly at the base with 2 small phillips heads under the lockplate...

and do yourself a favor, if your gonna pull the lockplate, get the lockplate depression tool.. it's cheap and makes the job a gazillion times easier...

I got the full set from the parts store and pulled the whole thing correctly with the proper tools. Now that you mention it the snap ring was slightly mangled pulling it out and going back in. Could it be that thing is not rideing flush in there and causing problems?

The reason i went so far back in the column was to replace the key cyclnder and thread the harness fopr the cruize control down inside the column instead of outside like the PO had it.

thats what it sounds like, the lockplate isn't sitting flush....

Sumna bitch, shoulda followed the directions bolded that said ALWAYS REPLACE THE SNAP RING WHEN RE-INSTALLING.:D... guess they will have that in the help section at the parts store.

i've never bought one, but i'm sure a decent parts store has em...

So I wanted to post a update with the solution that I found. What had happened is the puller that I rented from orileys bent the tabs on the locking plate thus dragging on the the inside. Hammered it flat again and all is good. Thanks for the ideas.
