/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif Your getting crazy with that thing this go round huh?

NAH... see you guys are going the wrong way!
You have to ADD weight.... down low!

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif the top should be light when the top comes off and I cut about 45-50lbs out of that roof /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Sorry its been a while since I 'ed a floor pic, I've been so busy parting out the pickup and working on the new frame I've not done anything to the blazer till it gets on the new frame. I'm planning a HEAVY steel diamond plate belly pan also /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Well, there is the weight of mine thus far.

No engine trans or transfer. no driveshafts, no battery, no shocks. full interior except for seats. All one tonned. I might just squeak in under 5000 but its gona be close. Also needs the cage and rear bumper yet. Spare tire and winch are not on their. OK, maybe I won't get in under 5.

And for all those of you who may wonder, NO that is not how a tow bar should look going down the road.

3500 lbs. with the tow bar still hooked up. I wish I had removed the towbar. Probably some downward force on it but hopefully negligible. Just threw some numbers around last night guesstimating weights of components not yet installed and I may just run over 5000 by a hair so now its gona be fun adding things and adding as little weight as possible. I think my half topper still weighs 200 lbs or so. Might end up making a soft top for it. I'm trying to come up with a ?dollar per pound ratio to what I feel is worth it for dumping weight. I think if the soft top cost 400 to make I'd say that would be worth it so right now 2 dollars per pound is sounding good. Some of the items yet to be added will be removable to so I'm not sure how to figure in that weight. Wouldn't have to be there for the hardest climbs. Spare tire, on board air and things of this nature.

I'm starting to hit the Dollar per pound wall myself. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

OK, I started doing the fuel cell project. The cell and the holding straps are about 20 pounds. The skid plate alone came in at 31 pounds! I'm already ahead and I have not even got the tank itself out. Should be able to weigh it in a few days.

The empty gas tank with the sending unit and the straps came in at about 30 pounds. So about 61 pounds back there with no gas. IIRC gas is about 8 pounds per gallon. With a 28 gallon tank or so (All I could put in there), A full tank would weigh around 285 pounds. All behind the rear axle unloading the front axle (theory). Now with the 20 pound 16 Gallon fuel cell, its 148 pounds over the rear axle. So thats about a 137 pound lose (or so) with full tanks. I'll have to see if I can notice a difference in climbing abilities. I have heard that people that have moved their drivetrain back for stability reasons lose some climbing abilities. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

So what about those of us that drive our real truck/rock buggy/mud truck/trail rig to the mall to show it off? Something about big dents scares children.

scrapped from the firewall back, minus the top and any interior so basically the bedsides and floor (just sheet metal) that alone weighed 480lbs alot less than I thought

So are you talking like carpet and panels and seats, stuff like that? Dash stuff? I'm wondering how much the stock Dash assembly weighs.

no I am talking like no seats, carpet or anything just the bare metal....I am sending a truck to the crusher so to speak so that was just the metal.....might help you get an idea of what just the metal weight you are dealing with is....

Anyone have anymore input? We can't let this thread die more than it already has...sorry for the old thread.
Sandman, hows the lexan holding up?

Still have the part sitting on the side of the house. I've got to finish the lift on my bronco before I can get to it. I'm also thinking of going to the new 327 and dumping the BB. We've put a few of those into jeeps and they are a sweet engine.

Its mostly just been sitting in the garage but for one run this year.

why not a 383 instead same weight but a hell of a lot more down low torque

I also plan on using the complete computer and wiring harness. Basically a drop in deal. Those new motors are pretty good in the power department.
