Hey guys im wanting to put my regular single din head unit on the ceiling between the sun visors on my k10. I thought about buying the shelf from lmc and just mounting it on the the shelf but I don't really want to lower my visors...so im wondering if there us any structure above the ceiling panel and the roof panel that I could mount a box to, to mount my head unit in?

The reason I don't want to put it in the stock hole in the dash is because its just to low and my knee will pretty much be in the way lol. Also the previous owner hacked it up pretty good. Ill prob just make a cover plate and put switches there as needed.

See mine doesn't look like that. My ceiling is a metal panel instead of a head liner..ill try to get a pic up in a little bit

Yeah that looks different. I don't have a headliner either, but mines a burb.

Only thing I worry about with the overhead mount now is that I live in the city and it would be very visible and easier to steal...

Ya ive had a few stereos stolen over the yrs..thats why my head unit, 6.5's, and 6x9s only cost 110 shipped..

I put that pyle one in my boat. Its pretty big.

I wouldnt' want that hanging from my roof.

There are some products made to do what you are looking to do.

Ya I think im just gonna fab up a little box out of thin steel and use 1/2" long sheet metal screws and screw it straight into the ceiling. Sounds redneck but it wont be lol..ill post pics. Ill pre-drill the holes and use the drill bit to check the depth I have to work with before hitting the roof panel. I want it as close to the ceiling as possible to help keep it out of sight. Also going to paint the box and bracket flat black to help it blend in..

What are you trying to get out of this stereo? Radio only, Aux input, or cd player?

Yes...lol all the above. I bet your thinking mp3 player and amp right? I thought of that briefly but Id rather have a head unit.

Jason for under $100 my son will install an alarm for you and that $100 includes the alarm

Yeah that looks different. I don't have a headliner either, but mines a burb.

Well I finally had time to put my cheepo radio in the k10.
Here is the bracket I made to hang it between the sun visors

I cut it out on my cnc plasma. There are slots to screw the radio to the bracket. The big slots in the back are just for air flow to the radio.

Here it is installed. I painted it flat black. Its actually in there pretty good. Some one would have to really want it in order to steal it. So far im pretty happy with it. Its up out of eye sight. From the front of the truck looking through the wind sheild you cant even see it, my windshield is tinted at the top...guess it was factory.
