PUUHLEASE change your oil!

Im BAAACK! My puter had Klez virus. What a PITA! Sandi spent all weekend on it and finally whooped it a few hrs ago..

ANYWAY! I put in a cleaner that dad has at the shop. I cant remember the name right now, but its somekind of an engine cleaner. It was a green color.

Twiz......pad away bro! You cant catch me at this point.

Z3PR, my brother has a WRX that he got a few months ago, the car has only 8000 miles on it and he changed the oil the 4th time in it Friday. Not quite as often as you but still pretty often. A kid I went to school w/, his grandpa SWORE by Quaker state. But changed it every 500 miles. Didnt make sense to me. This was back when QS was still notorious for sludging up a motor.

My Subaru has over 209,000 miles and got its last oil change at 183,000! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif I just never remember to change it till Im on the road to work, cant do it then. LOL! It still runs great and starts no problem, but I retired it to drive PI everyday again. It developed its 1st leak at the last oil change so I just keep adding to it.

Well I got a bunch of reading to do so Im gonna move on for now.
 
Solo's right. Using diesel to flush engine used to be pretty common. Almost a nessisity in the older engines that were poorly maintained.
I'v used that method my self with good sucess in old engines. It cleans out the engine and frees up the rings. And will restore lost power. Older oils broke down rather quickly under heat and stress and turned to sludge. There used to be a bunch of "motor Flushes on the market. These were basicly nothing more than diesel fuel and some detergent.

Modern lubricants have made engine flushing pretty much a thing of the past. Their additive packages are designed to keep engines clean. With regular oil changes engine flushing should not be needed.
 
THANK YOU!!! finally a bit of credibility so everybody doesn't think I'm nuts... /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif + newer oils are detergent based... old oils needed to sludge because the oil filter really didn't do much so sludging in the bottum of the oil pan was actually wanted.

Nah yur not nuts Jeff.
Yur right about most people on this board being too young to know about the older engines.
I rember when you could buy a add on oil filter kit that used toilet paper rolls as a filtering medium. Dont squeeze the Charmin! And oil came in glass bottles. So I guess you could call me "Old School"
But I dont miss the good ol days a bit.
I will take my Dependable modern Computer controlled, Fuel Injected engine any day over one of those old gas sucking oil burning dinosuars.
My K5 gets better gas milage than some old "classic" cars I have owned and uses a heck of a lot less oil.
 
LOL - yea I'm in the middle of rebuilding a 1950 chevy truck - 5 window. lots of guys a purists, and do these things original. I've spend enough time running ranch equipment that I've had a belly full of driving old trucks! this is gonna have a 350, a/c, IFS suspension etc.
 
My Firebird get its oil changed every other thursday. Drag racing is hard on parts and oil, so I replace it all the time. If I get alo of runs in one night then it gets changed right after. I will tell you that after 15,000 miles of hard abuse the bearings still look new. My boat is the same way, just after every time it goes out. It sucks though because it holds 9 quarts. Jimmy and Burb every 2,000 miles.

Well I ran it today and drained it again. Still clumpy. I did play around w/ some of the clumps, its like wheelbearing grease. I pulled the filter off and Ill bet it weighed 3 LBS! I refilled it and will have to drain it again. Its just too nasty, bottom line. It needs at least 1 more oil change and filter before it leaves.

We are going to recommend that he brings it back every 500 miles for about 2 months. The bad part is the guy delivers news papers, so he prob. racks up 500 miles a week.
