Can I swap an electric choke onto an older carb that came with the manifold heated choke or would I be better off just rebuilding a carb that came with the electric. I am helping someone put a 4.3 in to a scout and I haven't seen the manifold yet, but I am assuming it has no provision for the heated coil.

Some you can, some you can't. My dad had one that he was going to retrofit, and the peices weren't interchangeable, the carb casting was slightly different.

However, some people on here have had success swapping the choke styles, so apparently it is hit or miss.

No, the casting of the carb itself was different where the choke housing sat for electric variants...the three "legs" don't match up on some of them, they were shorter or something, the linkage couldn't be made to work because of it.

Again, this was only on one carb, it could be rare for all I know. I had really good luck with my mechanical choke, so I never felt the need to change.
