OK so for the first time in over 5yrs I got the K5 engine running again. Thanks to everyone on here who has helped me over the years.

I rebuilt the stock 78 qjet that is on the carb.

When I first started it up white smoke came out of the tail pipe and it seamed to be running real fast. At idle white smoke still came out of the tail pipe but not as much. It still seams to run fast.

How should I adjust the carb? I followed the basic recomendations. I think I have it at 2 or 1/ 1/2 turns from when it bottoms out.

Also when it was running 5 yrs ago I did not recall this much white smoke.

White white thick smoke, or just it's cold outside, not warmed up yet, blowing white smoke? Quadrajet 2 1/2 turns from lightly seated is a starting point, to get you close in order for you to adjust. Need to get a vacuum gauge to adjust them to reach the highest possible vacuum. Suppose you can do it the Edelbrock way, go lean till the rpms change, and go back 1/4 turn. :P

Where in WA are you? I have a vacuum gauge if you wanna swing by.

Thank you for the kind offer. I have a vacumm guage and tach guage. When I started it up it was maybe 45 degrees outside.

The rpm guage was reading 6K at idle. So maybe I didn't have it set correctly.

To go lean do I turn clockwise?
